Our client Scottish Power Renewables are looking for an Onshore Construction Client Representative for a contract role based at Harestanes Windfarm near Moffat.

Job Purpose Statement

A key role within the Scottish Power Renewables construction team focussing on the delivery of large-scale renewables projects, including Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems and Wind Power.

The position of Client Representative sits within the project construction department within the Renewables business reporting directly to the SPR Project Manager. The department is responsible for the construction of new build projects in the UK. The Client Representative will be part of a multi-disciplined team responsible for delivering projects and is the primary on-site representative.


Accountability Statement

• Assist the Project Manager in leading/managing multi-disciplinary projects during construction, commissioning and handover to the operations team.
• Responsible for on-site ownership, providing technical support and advice in relation to construction stages for renewables projects, the Site Manager will have
• Resolve a range of on-site/technical/specialist issues on projects.
• Actively identify and manage all critical risks, issues and impacts of the project specifically the adequate application of and adherence to both statutory and corporate health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Review/monitor contractors’ progress against programme and ensure key project milestones are achieved.
• Produce progress reports as directed by the Project Manager.
• Manage technical advisors/consultants/minor contracts (e.g. site investigation) as appropriate.
• Manage interfaces between the main contractors (typically turbine, infrastructure, electrical equipment suppliers and grid contractors).
• Ensure all deliverables meet operational requirements.
• Responsibility to proactively monitor and manage contractor’s programmes in line with the overall project programme
• Responsibility for safe implementation of the role of the Principal Contractor in line with CDM 2015 for SP Renewables. The Site Manager is responsible for co-ordinating all on site activities & review of all pre-task planning
• To ensure compliance with all site environmental legislation and monitor all agreed mitigation
• To ensure compliance with all quality standards and specifications with a particular focus on monitoring of the works using the both the Clients and or Contractors inspection and testing regime this will include control over all material and free issue equipment
• To minimise variations, keeping accurate daily records and reports


Dimensions

• On-site management and control of supply and packaged contracts with an average CAPEX value between £2 to £10 million.
• Co-ordination of all on site activities & review of all pre-task planning to the ensure safe implementation of the role of the Principal Contractor in line with CDM 2015
• Contracts will likely be an average of 1-2 years.
• Manage the interface between SPR and contractors for free issue procured material making sure high value main plan and cable are quality tested and inspected.
• Facilitate regular communication and consultation with local communities, businesses, councils, road depts, to mitigate the impact of construction activities and maintain access.
• Provide technical updates to community liaison officers, land & planning to assist on access requirements


Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• Knowledge and experience in structure and main plant installation electrical equipment, Switchgear, TX’s, Auxiliary Earthing Transformers, battery racks, steel structures, cladding and building work.
• Experience in cable installation, glanding and terminating, protection & control systems, telecoms, earthing, mechanical and electrical interlocking/testing
• The ability to proactively liaise and interface with transmission operational staff, Protection Engineers and SAP, understanding and implementing safety from the system
• Significant experience in managing BOP/Civil/BESS construction projects
• Ability to understand electrical design drawings, circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams and all inspection and testing
• Contract management including variations and claims
• Awareness of conditions of different types of contracts, e.g FIDIC, NEC3
• Ability to implement quality assurance and environmental processes
• PC knowledge and application of Microsoft applications
• Knowledge of specification, design, maintenance, construction and commissioning of renewable systems/electrical substations
• Proven ability to lead and work in a team and contractors’ environment
• Excellent negotiation and influencing skills
• 3- 5 Years in a similar Site Manager role with significant experience in managing Renewables/BESS/Solar/Windfarms/Transmission/Civil construction projects.
• Strong leadership & planning skills
• Candidate should have significant experience in all current Health and Safety legislation & understand CDM 2015 regs & duty holder roles most notably in delivering the Principal Contractor role.


Minimum Criteria

• Essential must have significant experience as a site manager/client representative/ clerk of works delivering the Client or Principal Contractor role and managing multiple contractors in the power sector.
• Degree or HND in Electrical Power Engineering/Civil Engineering or significant on-site experience, in managing renewables construction projects in the power sector.
• Excellent IT skills.
• Current five days SMSTS or equivalent.
