Summary

CLINICAL AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Practise at all times within the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Practice. To attend mandatory training as required. To present an appearance which gives a positive image of the Trust and a manner which is appropriate and inspires confidence. To ensure fulfilment of the requirements for professional updating and maintain a personal record for future registration purposes. Work within and monitor standards of care within the defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the unit to ensure the delivery of a high quality of service. To ensure privacy and dignity of patients. Ensure effective communication processes to meet the needs of patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Propose and develop evidence based policies/procedures and working practices within the clinical area and ensure they are implemented. Set a high standard of record keeping regarding patient care which comprehensive, concise, valid and audited on a regular basis. Responsible for implementing strategies which enable quality targets to be met utilising recognised audit tools. Provide clinical and professional advice to other medical and nursing staff within the gynaecology unit ensuring education needs of patients and staff are met. Responsible for own education and knowledge within chosen speciality. Maintain professional registration. Continually audit and monitor efficacy of colposcopy clinics. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for maintaining patients health records in accordance with Trust policies. Responsible for triaging gynaecology referrals via the gynaecology triage inbox. Responsible for own patient caseload and managing results and informing patients of same in a timely manner. Collecting data for and presenting audits. Responsible for managing/preparing cases for any appropriate MDT meetings. Assist / Support the Matron in maintaining ESR and clinic rotas. TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES Act as a mentor and support staff through clinical supervision. To create a friendly, approachable and professional climate conducive to learning for all staff and students. Maintain established links with the university of healthcare. Responsible for providing formal teaching sessions on own specialist subject. LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES To deputise for other colleagues as the service requires. Responsible for the annual appraisal of less senior members of the team. Lead and support staff within the nursing team to ensure development needs are met. Ensure that equipment is maintained, in safe working order and consumables are managed in a financially effective way. Help to ensure staff training is maintained. Resolve complaints/issues at a local level and in a timely manner in conjunction with the Gynaecology Manager / Matron. To participate with the Gynaecology Manager/Matron in the recruitment, orientation, development and retention of all staff required in the team. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY To identify options for cost improvements. To use correct clinic procedure codes. RESEARCH & AUDIT Participate in research and clinical audit programmes in order to develop and improve the gynaecology speciality outpatient service Participate in new innovations expected to be developed within the unit Trial new equipment under the supervision of the lead consultant Support strategies to reduce clinical risk ie:- hand hygiene, ANTT- aseptic non touch technique, medical devices and protection of vulnerable adults
