Join us as an Advisory Lead, Trade Finance

  • This specialist role in Financial Crime (FC) will see you partnering with the business, products and the Risk function to identify, assess and manage its risks within the agreed risk appetite, using the bank’s risk framework
  • Within this specialist capacity, you’ll make a vital contribution to driving a generative culture of risk awareness, recommending solutions to operations risk issues within the businesses, and strengthening the level of ownership within the business

What you'll do

We’ll look to you to deliver a robust risk governance framework in line with the operational risk handbook, and the conduct and compliance handbook. You’ll also deliver relevant specialist risk activity, to build credible and realistic plans to move and sustain a control environment certification rating within our risk appetite.

You’ll lead and inspire a team of business and customer control partners to ensure the development, maintenance and delivery of effective controls, assurance and implementation in the businesses.

Your role will also involve:

  • Building and leading the Trade Finance Advisory function, providing advice on interpretation of FC policy, standards and risk appetite decisions across all FC typologies
  • Partnering with specialist advisory colleagues and the franchise FC teams to provide holistic advice on interpretation and impact on FC policy and standards on the business, clients and products
  • Assisting franchises to manage financial crime risks
  • Providing FC advisory support and drafting regulatory responses where there is a need to articulate the bank stance on standards and treatment strategies within the scope of the request
  • Preparing and presenting papers on FC related matters, while also measuring and reporting, to senior level forums and committees on how the team is performing in managing FC risks and assisting in driving improvements
  • Taking ownership of the FC hub for the second line of defence (2LOD) relationship for decision making and facilitation and collaboration on interpretation of policy, standards and risk appetite

The skills you'll need

To be successful in this role, you’ll need an understanding of anti-money laundering (AML) regulatory requirements and how these apply to non-personal products and services. You’ll bring strong stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to influence at senior management levels and collaborate across an organisation.

We’ll also look for significant financial crime expertise and a proven experience in Trade Finance products, processes, client-types and risks. It’ll be ideal if you hold a diploma certificate in AML, or you should be working towards taking this exam and completing the qualification.

On top of this, you’ll bring:

  • The ability to analyse and evaluate multiple sources of information, alternatives and associated consequences
  • Proven people leadership skills
  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to influence others to be final decision maker in the FC hub on standards interpretation for FC decisioning
  • The ability to coach and build capability into the wider team
