Infection Prevention and Control Data Analyst/Support Worker
Department: Infection Prevention and Control
Band 4: £25,147 - £27,596 Per annum

This role provides the post holder with an opportunity to join the Infection Prevention and Control Team to support the Trust in providing clean safe care through the provision of an effective and efficient surveillance ,audit and education programme.
The post holder must have excellent communication skills, experience in data capture, interpretation and report writing.

To support the Trust in providing clean safe care through the provision of an effective and efficient surveillance, audit and education programme. To provide an effective and efficient business focused administration and support service. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
To perform a variety of duties involved in the prevention and control of infection which includes the collection, collation, and analysis/ reporting of data in a systematic manner using various IT software and communication methods. A key element of the role includes supporting the delivery of basic IP&C education.
You are required to develop and maintain efficient office systems, ensuring that resources are available in a timely manner and practically organised to enable maximum clinical contact time for the team.
To work independently, in line with Trust policies and procedures, managing own workload in support of the department.

• It is a necessity to be aware of the targets within the NHS plan and how actions taken in every day procedures affect these targets.
• Work closely as directed by the IPC Lead Nurse with all Medical, Nursing and Midwifery Staff, Consultant Microbiologists and other laboratory staff, physicians, environmental health officers and other heads of departments in the surveillance and prevention of infection.
• Responsible for collection and collation of data for Surgical Site Infection Surveillance Service (SSISS) scheme giving timely feedback to the accountable speciality to use the information for review and guidance of clinical practice against a benchmark rate.
• Ensure that the administration of the surveillance programme is planned to meet the needs of the organisation. Minimum requirement for an NHS trust is 1 quarter per year for orthopaedic surgery- the trust currently run the surveillance throughout the year for 2 categories
• Prepare regular statistical reports, analysing, preparing and summarising data on the incidence of infection/audits for individual Consultants and management. This includes feeding into the annual report for IPC.
• Accuracy and timeliness when entering patient information is essential to meet the requirements set out by the Department of Health for monitoring of health care associated infection.
• Communicate effectively with patients, around participation in the SSISS program. Feedback at clinical improvement groups to staff regarding data findings.
• Adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
• To initiate and to participate in new developments within the role.
• Propose changes to local policies and processes to support the development of the IPC service.
• Develop, maintain, and share database(s) for the purpose of surveillance within the IPC office in support of the wider programmes.
• You must be conversant with the use of Excel, Word, Office, Statistical Control Analysis and Report compilation.
• Arrange and deliver basic infection prevention and control education to healthcare support workers for example, healthcare assistant across the organisation.
• Assist in carrying out routine monitoring of wards and departments, alongside environmental surveys and complete reports following the audit.
