Key Duties: Provision of assessment, planning, investigations, diagnosis and treatment for people undergoing fertility care Act as an autonomous practitioner within own competence, skill and qualifications, managing own workload effectively Provide clinical expertise and the delivery of patient care in accordance with NMC code and Trust/Department policies and procedures. Carry out transabdominal/transvaginal diagnostic ultrasound scans for follicle tracking, interpret and act appropriately on results Be a contact / resource for GPs and other healthcare professionals in relation to fertility care Support both medical and nursing staff in the delivery of high quality fertility care Accountable for the quality and standard of work performed and delegated to the nursing team Contribute to the formulation of patient information leaflets and clinical/departmental guidelines/policy/procedure Act as a role model to all staff. To provide a high level of clinical expertise and leadership in the unit, ensuring best practice in accordance with national guidelines Communication and Relationships: Take delegated and non-delegated consent for investigations, procedures and treatments within own sphere of competence and adhering to local guidelines Liaise with the multi-professional team both within the organisation and external stakeholders, to ensure high standards of care are maintained Communicates proactively with all staff on the clinical condition and treatment/discharge plans of patients and ensures accurate nursing records are maintained by all staff Actively involves others in communication between patients, their relatives and the multi-professional team and ensure excellent communication Ensure high standards of written and verbal advice are available to patients, relatives and carers Actively involve patients, relatives and carers in their treatment Ensure the unit works collaboratively with other departments, especially with the maternity unit and scanning department Acts as a role model/ ambassador for the organisation and the nursing profession To ensure clinical data is recorded on the electronic medical record contemporaneously and accurately Contribute to the organisation of the MDT meeting and actions Management: Provide direct line management for the band 6 Fertility CNS Provide clinical leadership to other staff within the specialty Assist in the ordering of stock, ensuring correct delivery and value for money Contribute to the development and implementation of services by attending meetings where standards are reviewed, initiating change and improvement when necessary in discussion and collaboration with other members of the Fertility Team To assist in the control of the fertility budget by having due regard for the use of resources where appropriate Monitor and maintain the physical and financial resources of the Fertility Department, i.e. knowledge of ordering system, invoicing and payment procedures To take part in regular meetings with pharmaceutical and product representatives to ensure up to date knowledge of drugs and equipment prescribed and used by the team and their financial implications upon the urogynaecology budget Education and Training: To actively engage with CPD relevant to the speciality/needs of the service and personal development and disseminate new knowledge and skill appropriately To be involved in teaching for professionals, non-professionals, patients and carers Carry out clinical audit, patient satisfaction surveys, research and development of the service Practice Development: Ensure nursing practice is in keeping with the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives (NMC 2008, 2015) and reflects Trust Policy and Procedures Develop links and collaborative working relationships with other services Keep up to date with professional issues and ensure they are reflected in practice Participate in opportunities to share good practice and innovations with colleagues locally, regionally and nationally To be fully conversant with all relevant Trust policies and up to date with the Trusts Mandatory Training Programme Professional development: To receive regular clinical supervision and provide clinical supervision to other staff and students Take every opportunity to maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence To participate in personal objective setting and review, including the creation of a personal development plan at annual performance review Vision and Values: The Trust aims to provide local services for local people.
