About the Role
Calderstones School are delighted to present this newly created role which will be critical to the future development of our SEND provision.
This role will ensure we are able to offer a comfortable, confidential and safe space for students to access a range of support and resources for their needs. Our students can expect to be welcomed and supported by a highly skilled SEND Support Officer, who will be pivotal in working with colleagues to ensure the right support is available for our students depending on their needs.
Working alongside our SENDCO and Asst. SENDCO, the ideal candidate will be part of a large team of SEND colleagues including 4 Higher Level Teaching Assistant’s and 8+ Learning Support Assistants. This role will be based full-time (term-time) within our SEND base and manage the day-to-day operations of the base. The role will co-ordinate all activities and agencies that use the base and support the administrative needs of the department, along with maintaining student records.
As the ideal candidate, you will have experience of working with students, aged 11-19 and advanced knowledge of SEND and safeguarding children in education. You should have proven success in developing and implementing strategies to support children to manage a variety of learning needs and other complexities that can create barriers to accessing the full curriculum on offer.
Outstanding communication skills are essential, along with high emotional intelligence, personal resilience and the ability to effectively manage and mediate in times of conflict.
You will have a good knowledge of relevant local agencies and support networks and be well organised. You will have strong interpersonal and organisational skills, be able to work autonomously and motivate others.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of supporting students with neurodivergent conditions including autism, ADHD, ADD, PDA, dyslexia etc.
Personal Qualities
This role would suit someone who;
• Has knowledge of SEND strategies and interventions depending on learning needs.
• Has a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
• Is able to demonstrate sensitivity, diplomacy and resilience when required
• Is comfortable working with young people and families with challenging behaviours
• GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent in English Language and Maths is essential along with evidence of Continued Professional Development.
• Proficient in IT including Outlook, Excel, CPOMS and SIMs
Desirable but not essential skills include:
• Experience of multiagency working
• Knowledge of EHCP and SEND administration processes
