Crynodeb

This post is for a Consultant HPB Surgeon. This post is sought to meet current demand and performance expectations in Hepatobiliary Surgery at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, though sessions may be required at the Trust’s other sites ( Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital). The Hepatobiliary Unit is a specialist centre for liver surgery, performing circa 150 resections per annum, with patients being referred from all over the United Kingdom and abroad. It also provides regional services for severe pancreatitis, complex benign biliary disease and the management of bile duct injuries and liver trauma. The successful candidate will work in conjunction with four Consultant Hepatobiliary surgeons, Mr Merv Rees, Mr Tim John, Miss Fenella Welsh and Mr Ben Cresswell to support, compliment and develop the existing services. The job also involves a commitment to the general surgery on-call rota. The post will commence as soon as possible.

The post holder will also work as part of the wider General Surgery team, working closely with Colorectal and Pseudomyxoma teams, to deliver a comprehensive emergency surgery service. They will manage their own caseload of patients through outpatient clinics, theatre lists and on-call arrangements.
This post is identified as an important part of the Trust’s strategy to remain a preferred provider for Hepatobiliary Surgery to our local population across a wide range of local hospital and community services, and our wider referring MDTs. The appointment will be expected to continue to contribute to the existing successful track record of the Surgery Division, which has an enviable reputation for high quality patient care and innovation in service delivery.

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.
We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.

It is expected that the post holder will provide full general and specialised surgical services including both elective and emergency surgery, based at the North Hampshire Hospital, but working across three sites as required. It is expected that the post holder will be an active member of the local MDTs.
