The Diagnostics Recovery & Transformation Programme is the largest single investment programme in the NHS in terms of capital and revenue combined (second largest after New Hospital Programme in terms of capital only).

It is delivering twin priorities:

• A significant transformation in the NHS diagnostic model (delivering recommendations of 2020 Richards Review)

• Recovery of diagnostic services as a key element of overall elective recovery and cancer performance.

The national diagnostics has four key Diagnostic Disciplines, and each team is made of subject matter experts including clinicians and implementation leads who each lead work across a priority area:

• Imaging

• Pathology

• GI Endoscopy

• Physiological Sciences

The national GI Endoscopy transformation project was formally established in March 2022, covering recovery and transformation of all adult NHS GI endoscopy services (diagnostic imaging and therapeutic interventions for digestive diseases).

National Specialty Advisers are responsible for providing expert clinical advice to the Diagnostics Recovery & Transformation Programme as well as professional advice and support in the development of strategy and policy relating to the Diagnostics programme and specialty programme workstream.

You will support senior leaders with the provision of clinical advice and leadership:

• Provide clinical and speciality oversight and expertise to support the delivery of the clinical Diagnostics programme and the recovery of GI Endoscopy services priorities, aligning the function from strategic objectives and business needs.

• Provide expert clinical advice to support the transformation of endoscopy services and supporting the national team in responding to requests for advice to support national meetings and briefings as required.

• Working with NSA’s and medical directors developing business plans to create alignment across the programme and wider diagnostics portfolio.

• Being a valuable source of knowledge on the latest scientific advances and provide clinical expertise on cross cutting themes including digital healthcare, innovation and tackling health inequalities.

• Collaborating with programme SROs and clinical leads in their speciality area to ensure that work programmes are aligned with national policy and strategy.

• Provide advice and insight to support and promote integrated care, based on the needs of population groups.
