This is a 12 month fixed term maternity cover across two highly valued leadership roles within the Corporate Psychology & Psychotherapy (P&P) team in South London & Maudsley NHS Trust. We are seeking to appoint an experienced psychologist, psychotherapist or psychological therapist with strong leadership skills to this Consultant role, ideally starting in Sep/Oct 2024.

As a Senior Lead of the Corporate P&P team you will join the Director for P&P and the Deputy Director in leading the various functions of the team. This role will in particular oversee and lead the range of trustwide initiatives that fall under the Staff Support service as well as contributing to P&P workforce initiatives. The Staff Support service has several functions that are managed by two 8b leads and includes the provision of Post-incident support and reflective practice to staff across the Trust as well as providing forums such as Schwartz rounds and Emotional Emancipation Circles as well as well-being initiatives and the Staff Counselling and Well-being service.

The post holder will act as an advocate for staff across the Trust and an ambassador for the Staff Support service and the P&P workforce across the trust, supporting them and others to maintain excellent standards of care and evidence based service delivery. Along with other senior staff the post holder will contribute to the strategic leadership and development of the professions and psychological provision across the Trust.

This person appointed to this post will provide leadership and management in relation to the Staff Support service and P&P workforce development including overseeing safe, effective and good quality Staff Support services and effectively supporting and promoting initiatives for the benefit for the workforce in the early stages of their P&P career.

They will represent staff experience as a member of the Trust P&P leadership team taking up responsibilities as required and they will work actively with and to support other functions of the Trust such as the Trust Quality Centre.

Clinical sessions will be arranged on appointment according to the successful applicant's area of expertise and existing service vacancies. Applicants will be able to demonstrate appropriate consultant level clinical expertise.

This role will have responsibilities across the Corporate Psychology & Psychotherapy team as well as across the Trustwide professional leadership and working closely with Corporate and other senior Trust colleagues. This Consultant role will Senior, Professional and Operational Managers across the Trust to:

-Ensure responsive, safe and effective provision of a range of staff support in line with best practice within the resources available.

-The role will provide visible leadership to relevant Trust staff and as part of the Trust Psychology and Psychotherapy Advisory Committee (TPPAC) leader to staff across the Trust

-to contribute to and where appropriate lead on Early Workforce initiatives for the Psychology & Psychotherapy workforce across the Trust.
• these activities will require ensuring appropriate managerial structures in place to address professional and developmental needs; ensuring appropriate governance structures, roles and responsibilities are in place that support and promote collaborative leadership and team working. integrate research, teaching and clinical activity so that there is a continual cycle of innovation, review, evaluation and improvement based on best practice standards and creating an environment that fosters innovation and service development
Person SpecificationQualifications
Essential
• Doctoral level qualification in clinical or counselling, forensic, health or educational psychology or equivalent professional qualification in psychological therapy (eg systemic psychotherapy, arts psychotherapy)
• Post doctoral training in an additional specialised area of psychological practice directly relevant to NHS mental health services
• Appropriate professional and/or statutory registration eg with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist, or with UKCP/BACP/ACP/BABCP/
• Evidence of continuing training in a specialised area of psychological practice through formal post-doctoral training (diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, OR an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a postgraduate diploma

Experience
Essential
• Experience in leadership of mental health professionals including psychologists and/or psychotherapists
• Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for the psychological care and treatment with clients with complex needs
• Experience of providing teaching and training to psychological therapists and/or other professional groups.


Knowledge & Skills
Essential
• Skills in negotiating with management on strategic policies
• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills including communicating complex, highly technical and sensitive information to colleagues, clients and families
• Ability to establish and communicate courses of action and targets to ensure achievement of objectives
• Advanced knowledge of psychological assessment and, where relevant, clinical psychometrics
• Advanced level knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group, mental health issues and child protection
