The anaesthetics department is seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated and dedicated people with the ability to work with the general surgery team to provide a comprehensive service across the department.

All Medical staff employed by the Trust are expected to comply with hospital health and safety policies, clinical governance and other risk management policies.

Job Profile

The post holder will be contracted to provide an anaesthetic service to Milton Keynes University Hospital. Candidates must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and should have at least 4 years postgraduate experience with 2 years in anaesthetics.

Job Outline
• To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide evidence-based care for all in patients. To liaise effectively and in a timely manner with surgical, medical, and nursing colleagues and all other health care agencies when appropriate
• To assist in the provision and development of a safe and effective Service and support the Trust in its aim to provide the best possible care to patients.
• Out- of-hours on-call responsibilities, including participation in the on-call rota. On-call frequency will be 1 in 10. Commitments include cover for ICU, Theatres and Obstetrics depending on experience
• To carry out all duties to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within that area of work.
• Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
• A willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
• To carry out their duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunities policy at all times.
• To comply with Trust Health and Safety policies and maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Teaching
• To assist in the professional supervision and management of trainee medical staff
• To organise and participate in teaching, examination and accreditation duties for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.
• To participate in the education and teaching of nursing and ODP staf

Research and Audit
• To be actively involved in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in continuing professional development
• To implement audit and research findings as appropriate

Policy and Planning
• To contribute to the developmentof clinical and organisationalguidelines
• To review and develop policies for clinical practice and effectiveness
• To participate in the strategic planning for the service
• To comply with current Trust policies and procedure

Management & Communication
• To participate in all aspects of Service Line and Hospital affairs, including attendance at Consultant Meetings and to represent the department on appropriate committees/working parties when required.
• To develop and monitor performance indicators for the anaesthetic and critical care service and implement action as necessary
• To assist in the effective handling of patients’ complaints

Record Keeping
• All staff who have access to or transfer data are responsible for that data and must respect confidentiality and comply with the requirement of the Data Protection Act 1998, in line with the Trust’s policies
• The post-holder is responsible for data quality and complying with policies, procedures and accountability arrangements throughout the Trust for maintaining accuracy and probity in the recording of the Trust’s activities
• To comply with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in line with Trust Policy
