Cancer Alliances are unique. We are the primary vehicle for delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan ambitions for cancer and improvements in cancer performance. Asa Senior Data Analyst, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the Cancer Transformation Programme.

We are looking for a high calibre individual with great analytic skills, technically very competent, gives attention to detail, used to working with large data sets, is good at problem solving and has the ability to create ‘information’ from ‘data’. The role is varied covering, data analysis, working with a variety of stakeholders including commissioners and providers to evidence activity, developing analytics to support the Cancer Agenda and assessing performance data.

Conduct high-quality analysis using a quantitative techniques to address the key lines of enquiry investigating and resolving highly complex trends by ensuring that findings are reconciled and triangulated against local intelligence and support regular interpretation and reporting of results in an appropriate manner.

Processing and manipulating large quantities of data, operating within the national information governance framework, to facilitate timely analysis to inform monitoring and assessment of impact against key performance indicators (outcome measures). Ensuring that robust quality assurance processes are followed and implemented.

Ensure accurate and open communication and co-ordination with a range of organisations and individuals, researching and drafting correspondence and papers and ensuring the management of specific tasks, lead reporting and analysis across a range of specialties, functions and projects.

Have good project management skills, including the ability to plan, juggle competing priorities and tight deadlines for themselves.

Be a clear communicator with excellent written and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately to a diverse and varied range of audiences consisting of internal and external stakeholders.

Develop insight tools to inform Operational Planning





SWAG CA is hosted by North Bristol NHS Trust for the purposes of formal employment and the provision of back-office support to the Cancer Alliance.

The post holder is hybrid working with a minimum of 40% office based within the SWAG CA geography.

The post holder will be required to travel across the South West.



The holder of this post will lead on the improvement work required to meet these recommendations and lead on the Cancer Alliance’s data improvement programme.

The post holder will work as part of the senior management team delivering an efficient and effective analytic service, supporting managers and staff to ensure that their work stream of activities is informed, planned and tracked effectively assisting in their successful delivery.

In association with and under the overall direction of the SWAG CA Programme Manager (Faster Diagnosis and Operational Performance) and in liaison with other senior staff, the post holder will be responsible for providing securedevidence and analytics to support and inform alliance activities and support insight in the use of these to drive the SWAG work programmes in quality improvement.

The post holder will:

The successful candidate will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, complete work requests at short notice on occasion and deliver to tight deadlines as well as understand some of the sensitivities in relation to the information that they handle and communicate as part of working on a large and important project.

The role supports the business in driving transformation as well as value for money in planning, commissioning and service.

The role is designed to build a combination of subject matter expertise and technical skills to develop a strong service delivery.

Person Specification

· Educated to degree level in specialist area.

· Extensive knowledge of data analytics, acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training.

· Have demonstrable experience of processing and manipulating large quantities of data, operating within the national information governance framework, to facilitate timely analysis to inform monitoring and assessment of impact against key performance indicators (outcome measures). Ensuring that robust quality assurance processes are followed and implemented.

· Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on appointment.

· Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health, NHS England and individual provider and commissioning organisations.

· Demonstrable experience of accurate and open communication and co-ordination with a range of organisations and individuals, ensuring the management of specific tasks, lead reporting and analysis across a range of specialties, functions and projects.

· Usespecialist skills across a range of areas relating to data management and interpretation such as SQL Server, SAS and Excel.
