Reading Borough Council’s Adult Care and Health Services are recruiting a Public Health Programme Officer for Stop Smoking and Tobacco Control to work in our Public Health and Wellbeing Team. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
This role will provide strategic public health leadership and expertise for stop smoking and tobacco control in the Borough, initially working alongside the designated Public Health Programme Officer.

About the role:
The Public Health Team is responsible for the development and commissioning of both the mandated public health services and projects or initiatives that focus on wider determinants of health such as planning, transport, the built environment, education and employment to maximise the positive health impacts of these areas.
Our aim is to ensure that the health and wellbeing of the population of Reading is improved as far as possible and we drive down inequalities in health outcomes.
Duties of the role include:
Plan, develop and implement stop smoking and tobacco control programmes, services and projects.
Manage the public health commissioning cycle for the programme area, initially with a specific focus on new initiatives and partnerships being developed to deliver on the Section 31 Grant for Reading’s Smokefree Generation allocation
Take a lead role in building good levels of community engagement across communities and vulnerable groups to ensure tobacco control/smoking cessation programmes and projects are addressing the need to reduce inequalities
Co-ordinate the activities of the Berkshire West Tobacco Control Alliance. Work collaboratively with internal and external Alliance members and stakeholders, in line with best practice, to ensure a detailed action plan, priorities and objectives are developed to deliver the Berkshire West Tobacco Control Plan (2024-2026)
