Wessex NHS Procurement Limited (WPL) is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for a detailed job description of the role

This role of the Distribution Assistant is imperative to the operation of the hospital as the majority of goods used in the hospital are processed by the Supply team – operations can’t happen without Distribution Assistants delivering the right goods to the right team at the right time – it would not be unusual for you to walk in the region of 20,000 steps in a day! The role is 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday 11:30 to 20:00.

Items are delivered to wards and other areas in cages or on pallets. In the last 12 months the team have delivered over 80,000 parcels via 5000 cages. You will soon become an expert at navigating your way around one of the largest acute teaching hospitals in England.

The role is really rewarding as you will have a direct impact on patient care by:
• Delivering take home drugs from the pharmacy promptly – this means that patients can go home, and a new patient can be admitted
• Taking repaired electronic equipment back to the wards so it can quickly be put back into action
• Collecting drugs from radiotherapy and taking them to the nuclear medicine team – ensuring cancer patients have access to the right drugs at the right time.
• Providing cover for the pharmacy distribution team during breaks
• Taking stock of wards so ward staff can concentrate on taking care of patients.

Please note thatWPL does not hold a Home Office Workers Licence and therefore unable to offer sponsorship.

At WPL we play a vital role for the NHS in Hampshire providing end-to-end procurement and supply chain services for University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Wholly owned by both Trusts, at WPL you’ll be part of the larger NHS family and contributing to improving healthcare across the region.

Our services include strategic sourcing, value creation, tendering, contract and inventory management, distribution and materials management for hospitals in Southampton, Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover. You’ll be part of a dynamic and like-minded team working with stakeholders on challenging targets to drive innovation, value and efficiency from procurement and supply.

To recognise and reward your contribution we provide a range of great staff benefits. You’ll be eligible for a generous NHS pension scheme as well as all standard NHS terms of service and annual leave. Our employee benefits platform offers you discounts on a range of items, from the weekly grocery shop, high street shopping, days out with the family, and even holidays.
