This role is employed by University of Derby but works in partnership with Rolls-Royce Submarines Ltd. Due to the nature of work that Rolls-Royce Submarines Ltd conducts and the protection of certain assets, some roles within the Nuclear Skills Academy (NSA) require post-holders to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance.

This role does not currently require SC clearance, and this will not be a condition of appointment to this role. However, please be aware that there may be a future requirement for the successful candidate/s to undertake a SC check should any change in circumstances render this necessary due to development of the NSA over the coming years.

The University of Derby in partnership with Rolls-Royce Submarines Ltd operates the award-winning Nuclear Skills Academy, delivering exclusive programmes to nurture the nuclear experts of the future.

Renowned for our expertise in engineering, materials technology, and IT systems, at the University of Derby we are setting new standards in the UK for our collaboration with industry and leading the way in global research in materials technology and sustainability.

You can be part of shaping the future of the UK nuclear industry and sustaining nuclear capability within the UK’s submarines programme by creating a dedicated pipeline of talent at the start of their careers.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable individual to join our team as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Nuclear Engineering. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of our nuclear engineering programs, particularly as part of higher degree apprenticeships.

As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will:

Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and practical sessions to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Develop and enhance course materials, ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices.
Supervise student projects and dissertations.
Engage in research activities related to nuclear engineering.
Collaborate with industry partners and contribute to knowledge exchange initiatives.
Mentor and support students in their academic and professional development.
To be successful you will:

Have teaching experience at a university level.
Have a strong research track record, with publications in reputable journals or conferences.
Have excellent communication skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
Industry experience or professional certifications would be advantageous.
If this sounds like the role for you, come and join our team and make a significant impact on the next generation of nuclear engineers!

This role will be based at the Nuclear Skills Academy and Markeaton Street campus; exact split will be discussed at interview.

For further information and informal enquiries regarding the role, please contact Marat Margulis, Senior Lecturer in Nuclear Engineering via M.Margulis@derby.ac.uk

For enquiries regarding your application and for sponsorship eligibility, please contact the recruitment team via recruitment@derby.ac.uk

If you are successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The post for which you are applying is exempt from Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 requiring any spent convictions to be declared. Any information you provide will be treated in confidence and only used when considering your suitability for the post.

To enable us to process your DBS check please ensure you are able to supply the documentation listed on the DBS website at interview stage.

This role is eligible for sponsorship by the University, however, your individual circumstances must meet the criteria set out by UKVI; this includes meeting the English Language requirement and earning a salary that meets the highest of either the going rate for the SOC code or the minimum salary threshold for the Skilled Worker route (£38,700 per annum).

If the role is eligible, but the offered salary is less that the going rate for the role, you may still be able to apply for a Skilled Worker visa if:

Your job is on the Immigration Skills List
You’re under 26, studying or a recent graduate, or in professional training
You have a PhD level qualification that’s relevant to your job
You have a postdoctoral position in science or higher education
