Summary


A fantastic opportunity has arisen within the Musculoskeletal Service at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust for a Band 7 Physiotherapist to progress into a Clinical Team Leader Role. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a clinical caseload alongside non-clinical duties.

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist who is passionate about the development of others and the Service within which they work. They must be able to show evidence of clinical leadership and have training and supervision experience. The post holder will need to be able to balance an MSK clinical caseload at the same time as dealing with aspects of clinical leadership and supporting their team.



You should be able to demonstrate up-to-date clinical knowledge, evidence of CPD and have been involved in its creation and delivery. As a Clinical Team Leader within BCHC, the post holder will be expected to lead a Clinical Interest Group as well as help to drive the CPD and training agenda for the service. They will also be involved in audit, recruitment, appraisal, service evaluation and development, performancemonitoring and management.

This post will be predominantly based within the South Cluster of the BCHC Musculoskeletal Service however, as we are a large, community-based Team and part of the role requires visibility across the clinics, supporting clinicians and the Service where required, the ideal candidate will need to have the ability and willingness to work at and travel between sites across the city and within the BCHC footprint.

• You will have a designated mentor with whom you can meet with on a monthly basis to help with your development.
• As a wider MSK service, we meet in groups of clinicians (comprising of band 3-8b) on a monthly basis to work on a specific project related to developing our Service. Recent projects have included ‘The Use of a Cranial Nerve Examination in MSK Practice’, ‘Behavioural Change’ & ‘Red Flags’. These monthly meetings are also used for IST & to discuss complex case scenarios.
• You will have your own CPD time to be used for personal development such as peer sessions with other clinicians, shadowing of the Orthopaedic Triage or Pain Management Service or attending courses. Course funding may be available subject to service requirements.
• For your own development, you will also have access to Advanced Clinical Practitioners & Consultant Physiotherapists.
• We are a research-active MSK service & have been clinical sites for trials such as BOOST & GRASP.
• To provide a comprehensive Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy service for adult patients referred for assessment/treatment within the Trust. This will be delivered in health centres and GP surgeries, and occasionally in patient’s own homes and other community facilities including nursing homes, rest homes, local Leisure Centres and other community based facilities.
• To play an active part in the Physiotherapy service providing team leadership and support, and participating in service based initiatives and activities, including the supervision, training and teaching of junior staff, students and assistants.
• To be responsible for clinical mentorship, supervision and professional development programmes for all staff within their Cluster (to include leading Clinical Interest Groups, overseeing Clinical Supervision programmes, authorising and analysing CPD activity).
• To be responsible for day to day risk assessment, clinic management and staff support within clinic of work.
