We have an exciting opportunity for a tractor driver/ shepherd with a keen eye for detail and good communication skills to join our farm team at our Askham Bryan College Farm. We are mixed farming enterprise just outside York covering 200ha. We are seeking an individual who will work alongside the current team at Westfield Farm, assisting with all duties relating to the dairy, sheep and beef enterprises. The farm milks 150 pedigree Holstein Friesen cows twice a day through a 10/10 rapid exit parlour and 60 through a robotic system. The milking takes around 1.5 hours to complete. The farm rears all its beef x dairy calves through a brand-new calf rearing and beef rearing system. The farm also has a flock of 200 breeding ewes lambing in February. We also farm a small block of arable growing a mixture of crops including Maize, Wheat, Barley, Sugar beet and vining peas.
Your main responsibility will be the TMR diet feeding of all livestock on the farm and the care of the sheep flock along with a variety of tractor work. This role has great variety and provides a great opportunity for an individual to expand their knowledge and experience on a variety of different enterprises.
All relevant training will be provided. The successful candidate will be required to work in line with the Rota which will include weekend work. The Rota allows for 4 days off fortnightly. The role includes 35 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays and very good pension scheme. Full driver's license and telehandler ticket essential.
