Summary
The posts are for 3-month durations and will provide experience in neurosurgical anaesthesia (including all aspects of neuroradiology) and neurointensive care. The Clinical Fellow will perform the duties of the other SpRs within the department covering theatres, interventional neuroradiology and neurocritical care, both medical and surgical. There will be opportunities to become involved in clinical audit / quality improvement projects as appropriate during the time at Queen Square On Call Commitment and Timetable The Clinical Fellows will participate in the 1B shift system with the anaesthetic registrars. There is a separate tier of cover for the neurocritical care unit and an on call neurocritical care consultant, but the registrars provide additional cover for neurocritical care and oversee the trainees. Research The research interests of the department include clinical neuroanaesthesia, airway management, acute pain, neurological intensive care, neurosurgical intensive care, and brain monitoring. Fellows will be actively encouraged to participate in one of the many ongoing research programmes within the department when possible or to develop their own interests. Study and Training Weekly departmental meetings and teaching are held on a Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning afternoon, as are regular Multidisciplinary Morbidity and Mortality Meetings. There are many other regular programmes of postgraduate meetings throughout the hospital both in the Neurosurgical and Neurology Department that would be of interest. There are also regular teaching sessions in the clinical situation by consultant staff and trainees are encouraged to seek senior guidance. Appointees will be expected to take part in the weekly departmental meetings and to teach the staff on the Intensive Care Units.
