The Cancer and Associated Specialties Division have an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior nurse to join us in the CAS Matron team on a 6-9 month secondment. We fully appreciate the importance of work life balance and would be happy to discuss part time work/job share as an option.

Our Division comprises of multiple specialties including Oncology, Renal, Burns & plastics, Urology, Thoracic surgery, Palliative care, Infectious diseases, Pathology and Haematology.

Our CAS Matrons are pivotal in supporting our nursing teams and the wider speciality teams.

As a Matron, the successful candidate will provide strong, visible leadership, strategic direction and nursing support to the Division , whilst also working with your speciality leadership team to ensure a safe patient journey and the best possible experience through your speciality.

Challenge, in a positive manner, current working practices within specialities and promote a culture of continuous improvement

Promote a better understanding of nursing and how professionals can work to support patients and individuals to access appropriate services by means of role modelling and actively promoting the nursing role

Lead on the development of new clinical policies and procedures within Clinical Specialities across the Division

Work closely with specialty and division leadership teams to promote an ethos of joint working, collaboration and mutual respect amongst all members of staff

Ensure all staff take responsibility for safety and cleanliness of the clinical environment

Maintain professional competence, authority and credibility by undertaking regular clinical sessions and being highly visible to staff, actively seeking feedback about the quality of services

Using evidence based and reflective practice, influence nursing practice across sphere of responsibility, acting as a change agent and a professional resource for nursing staff to ensure the delivery of national and local standards and objectives

Maintain professional competence, authority and credibility by undertaking regular clinical sessions and being highly visible to patients, carers and staff, actively seeking feedback about the quality of services

The Matron will take an active role in supporting the shared governance agenda across the Trust

Working with a vision of “delivering excellence in everything we do”, the Matron will work with the Divisional Director, Divisional General manager and Divisional Nurse to provide professional leadership management to the Nursing Service for the Division.

The Matron will be accountable for the efficient and effective operational management of the nursing workforce, guaranteeing provision of high quality evidence based nursing practice which will be delivered within a hospital, community and outreach setting. The Matron will be a strong clinical leader, easily identifiable, highly visible and accessible to patients, carers and staff. He/she will have a particular responsibility to support the developments of Clinical Governance and Service Improvement, to modernise patient services and ensure the active involvement of patients and carers in the way services are developed, delivered and evaluated.

The Matron will provide strong clinical leadership within the Services and be highly visible and accessible to patients. Leading by example he/she will drive up standards of clinical care and have the authority to get the essential components of care right for patients – clean wards and departments, quality care, ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect, resolving problems for patients and relatives and ensuring high standards are maintained throughout the Services.
