This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) Commercial function.

Working in this position, you will be contributing to the procurement and management of contracts and suppliers that provide the Department with the external services and expertise it requires. You will be playing your part in to fulfilling the mission of DBT to be the department for economic growth. About the Roles:

DBT are recruiting 4 Assistant Commercial Manager roles to join our exciting and dynamic Commercial team.

The services these categories buy are critical for ensuring teams within DBT and DBT’s Arms Length Bodies can deliver DBT’s agenda. You will be a part of a dynamic category team running end-to-end procurement projects across a range of areas, providing commercial expertise to a diverse range of stakeholders throughout the department, supporting the Category Lead in category management and development of category policy and strategy, and providing expert support and advice to contract managers.

The categories recruiting are:

  • The Marketing & Events category, which supports procurement activities relating to Marketing, Media and Events across DBT.
  • The People and Professional Services category, which supports procurement activities relating to qualitative and quantitative research, management consultancy, and wider professional services.
  • The Projects and Partnering category, which supports procurement activities that involve mixed commercial categories and business process outsourcing, while also offering commercial business partnering support to DBT directorates and partner organisations.

As a member of the DBT Commercial team we would expect you to be flexible and move between any of our categories from time to time to support the needs of the Department and to help you develop your range of experience and expertise.

The Assistant Commercial Manager role is a fantastic prospect for a self-starter who wants to build their public sector commercial career.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting procurement and contract management activity across a wide range of spend categories required to deliver critical projects throughout DBT and its Arms Length Bodies.
  • Managing and administrating tenders on our e-sourcing portal.
  • Maintaining commercial records and documentation to a high standard and supporting governance and reporting.
  • Supporting the development of procurement requirements.
  • Supporting the development of domestic and international market insights, making evidence-based recommendations and feeding into sourcing strategies.
  • Supporting the Commercial Manager and Commercial Leads to secure effective and efficient delivery of outputs from suppliers, ensuring the UK taxpayer receives value for money and that value is derived throughout the supply chain.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and wider Commercial Team and Department capability building through knowledge and skills sharing. Audience-focussed, clear, concise, and consistent communication in a fast-paced environment.
