The speciality doctor may be required to cover operating sessions during the absence of Consultants, though there is always on call consultant support. In addition, the speciality doctor will work closely with the DCTs and provide supervision and training, particularly in dento-alveolar surgery. The speciality doctor will have the opportunity to be involved in a full range of oral and Maxillofacial surgery, but will be principally responsible for routine dento-alveolar surgery. Experience in the management of facial trauma is desirable and we will foster and encourage participation within the applicants comfort zone. The post holder will be expected to perform additional duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. The post requires participation holding the KGH on call phone and running casualty clinics on a rolling rota. There is an additional opportunity to join the 2nd on call (middle tier) rota (non-resident), which is fully supported by a non-resident consultant, and close supervision of junior first on call colleagues. We pride ourselves in being highly supportive of junior colleagues and in providing hands-on opportunities to manage acute oral surgical and facial trauma cases. All clinical activity is hours monitored and the equivalent hours are formally timetabled although contractually there is a degree of flexibility required to cover an ever-changing secondary care patient-centric service.
