Why we are hiring:
Zoocha is seeking a Senior Back End Drupal Developer to bolster our project based development team, responding to the increasing demand for our Drupal services.
Our ideal candidate comes with strong working knowledge and familiarity in key areas such as migrations to Drupal, 3rd party system integrations (inc. Search/Solr), Multilingual configuration, Drupal Commerce and an understanding of Drupal distributions such as LocalGov.
We value candidates who are engaged and active within the Drupal Community, which can be evidenced via your Drupal.org profile showcasing contributions, as well as active participation in discussions and issue queues.
Holding Acquia certifications will be considered an advantage, reflecting your desire to further your professional development and demonstrate your broad understanding of Drupal's core principles and advanced features.
Personality and team fit is as crucial for this role as technical ability – Zoocha is an informal and enjoyable environment to work in where everyone leaves their ego at the door!
The Role / Your Remit:
As a member of the Backend team, your role involves producing high-quality code that complies with Drupal coding standards. You may work across multiple projects, collaborating closely with individual teams within Zoocha under the guidance of a Backend Lead. Your focus will be on maximising efficiency and minimising unnecessary back and forth.
Your typical day might include:
Engaging in project sprints, handling tasks of different complexities, and implementing new features according to project requirements.
Ensuring that all code adheres to Drupal’s best practices and coding standards.
Documenting features for clarity and future reference
Troubleshooting and debugging issues as they arise
Reviewing code and analysing pull requests to ensure quality
Participating in daily stand-up meetings with clients and project teams
Collaborating closely with team members, addressing issues, answering questions, and providing advice and guidance
Mandatory requirements:
Ideally a bachelor’s degree in a subject with an IT, numerate, engineering or science focus (e.g. Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Maths or related) or demonstrable experience where you have independently undertaken a complex problem and achieved success
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential
You must be based in the UK, ideally within commuting distance of our office in Hertford
You MUST have a VISA or work permit already
You MUST NOT apply through a recruitment consultant as your application will be disregarded
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
3+ years of experience in Drupal development
Proficiency in PHP (Object-Oriented Programming), Git (GitHub/Git flow), Composer, and Drush
Solid understanding of Drupal's API (including Symfony Components), custom module and theme development
Strong communication skills and engaging with clients and stakeholders
Experienced in upholding coding standards and best practices, alongside conducting code reviews for colleagues
Helping less experienced developers to enhance their skills
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to contribute to several concurrent project streams
Practical working knowledge of DevOps tooling, such as Docker and local development environment tools such as DDEV and Lando
Familiarity with modern web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and responsive design principles
Why work at Zoocha?
Outstanding benefits including profit share, private healthcare, gym, team socials and wellness fund
Flexible working plus the ability to work from any of our offices (UK, Spain, Brazil) for periods of time
Providing an environment to let you grow and develop
An inclusive workplace with active advocacy networks for women, LGBTQI employees and people from ethnic minorities.
