Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly enthusiastic and experienced professional to join the Critical Care ACCP team at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Applicants must be extremely motivated and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. ACCP training involves extensive competency assessment of clinical skills as outlined by the Faculty of Intensive Care Curriculum. This is in addition to parallel completion of an MSc in Advanced Critical Care Practice. We encourage applications from all professional groups who are eligible to undertake non-medical prescribing under current statutory requirements.

At the Royal Brompton we have an established team of 8 qualified ACCPs fully embedded within the multidisciplinary team of critical care and are excited to be expanding this team with further trainee posts.

The Royal Brompton Critical Care is part of the Heart, Lung and Critical Care group within Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust of which there are 4 hospital sites – Royal Brompton, Harefield, St Thomas’ and Guy’s. Trust wide there are 23 ACCPs, 13 of whom are in training. The 4 sites collaborate to deliver a bespoke programme of education and clinical simulation that complements the Higher Education and FICM competency requirements. Trainee ACCPs will rotate for specialist clinical placements across the 4 hospital sites.

Trainee ACCPs will work in a supernumary capacity for a minimum 2 year period or until required academic and clinical competence is met. Trainee ACCPs will have an appointed Intensive Care Consultant Educational Supervisor. Study leave will be granted to attend all essential courses in addition to flexible rotas to support a positive work/ life balance and achieve training requirements. On gaining FICM accreditation the trainee ACCP will join the qualified ACCP rota tier. On award of the MSc, ACCPs are to be upbanded to an 8a.

The Heart Lung Critical Care group is fewer than 10 centres in the UK who undertake heart and lung transplants, offer advanced ECMO treatment, treat pulmonary hypertension, primary cilary dyskinesia and host a genomic laboratory service.

The Royal Brompton critical care footprint encompasses 40 beds. As well as being a commissioned respiratory Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) centre, our cardiogenic shock service, specialist congenital team, acute dissection and tertiary referrals mean we are caring for some of the most complex cardio-respiratory cases in the world. Experience working with ECMO is not essential, and any successful candidate will have the opportunity to quickly become immersed in the activity of the ECMO retrieval team.

As part of GSTT foundation trust and King’s Health Partners, ACCPs at Royal Brompton will be expected to collaborate and contribute to the development of these partnerships through quality improvement and shared learning. The London ACCP network encompasses a growing body of ACCPs and candidates new to London can access a wealth of information via these forums.

Once shortlisted the selection process will involve a presentation, panelled interview and OSCE/ SIM station. We look forward to hearing from you and welcome questions and informal visits:
