What will the successful candidate be doing:
We are looking for Lead Engineers Manufacturing and Metrology SME to lead the implementation of the Manufacturing Products Organisation (MPO) strategy, ensuring efficient manufacturing and assembly of nuclear waste containers to meet quality and schedule requirements at scale. Some line management of Manufacturing Engineers may be required. Deliverables
* Leads a team of Manufacturing Engineers who are the primary point of contact for Manufacturing aspects of the MPOs Portfolio of Products, acting as a deputy to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager as required.
* Provides expert oversight as a Metrology Subject Matter Expert (SME), offering technical guidance and assistance to Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) across the MPOs Portfolio of Products.
* Serve as the primary representative of the Manufacturing Production Organisation (MPO), collaborating with manufacturers and interfacing with internal teams and external regulatory bodies to enhance and sustain processes.
* Review and approve submissions such as, process flow diagrams and equipment requirements. Driving continuous improvement and addressing negative trends whilst ensuring adherence to standards.
* Collaborate with IPTs during product development phases to ensure a measurable solution is devised and communicated effectively to the supply chain. Offering technical guidance and assistance across the MPOs Portfolio of Products, addressing complex manufacturing challenges
* Ensure supplier capability aligns with our metrology standards, conducting Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies, audits, and other necessary assessments.
* Cultivate a skilled metrology resource pool within the organisation to support the realisation of our business strategy, including the delivery of metrology workshops, training sessions, and mentorship programs. Staying abreast of advancements and alterations in metrology standards, best practices, and emerging technologies through networking and continuous training initiatives. Identifying training needs and promoting best practices within the Manufacturing Engineering team.
* Challenge and improve working practices by contributing to the development and enhancement of standards, frameworks, and tools, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
* Serve as the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) coordinator, guiding products through the Sellafield New Product Introduction (NPI) process to consistently meet specifications.
* Manage manufacturing process Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and contribute to supplier evaluation for tenders.
The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for people with the following:
* Higher level qualification in a relevant metrology discipline or demonstrable experience in the field.
* Demonstrable expertise in Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Statistical Process Control (SPC), with a track record of practical application.
* Extensive knowledge and practical experience with geometric drawing tolerancing standards, with the ability to translate these specifications into actionable dimensional procedures.
* Demonstrate proficiency in programming coordinate metrology systems.
* Familiarity with operating within a Quality Management System, ensuring adherence to standards.
* Knowledge and experience of delivering NPI programs and the five core tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, and SPC) to deliver product development projects from concept to full production.
* Extensive knowledge and experience of a variety of manufacturing processes, preferably in regulated industries, e.g. nuclear, chemical, aerospace, oil & gas, etc.
* Demonstrable experience of leading continuous improvements and root cause analysis, using recognised tools, e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, Ishikawa, etc.
* SC Clearance or ability to achieve.
* European Computer Driving License (ECDL) or equivalent experience.
* Experience in a manufacturing role of upskilling internal and external resource capability.
* Demonstrable evidence of developing and improving a manufacturing organisation e.g. setting the standards, introducing industry best practice, challenging the norm etc.
Essential Skills:
