Summary
This is a senior education leadership role in the trust. It is a rewarding role that drives development and improvement in the educational experience for all medical learners (psychiatry and paediatrics) in the trust. You will jointly lead the Medical Education Department with the Medical Education Manager. You will have oversight of the postgraduate teaching programmes and act on feedback to ensure their quality and delivery for relevant groups. • Take responsibility for ensuring that NELFT can achieve the standards of postgraduate and undergraduate medical education and training, as set by the General Medical Council (GMC), in all placements within NELFT
• In association with the local deputy postgraduate dean, provide professional leadership and vision on medical education and training issues for NELFT
• In association with the appropriate stakeholders including postgraduate and undergraduate tutors, produce, implement and monitor a strategy for the provision of medical education and training at all levels
• Liaise with medical schools (QMUL, ARU) to ensure a smooth transition from undergraduate to post graduate training
• Align medical training and education with service objectives as defined by NELFT
• Represent NELFT on medical education and training issues, both externally and internally
• DME needs to undertake 3 yearly appraisals for Educational Supervisors
• Work with other DMEs to support training arrangements or programmes across the region
• Provide evidence of robust systems for educational governance and quality control as required by statute for the GMC and other external bodies as required
• Ensure that trainers and trainees employed by the Trust / Board are fit for purpose
• Report to NELFT Board, as appropriate to ensure awareness of the impact of changes in medical education and training on NELFT; and in partnership with the postgraduate Foundation & Specialty schools implement, monitor and improve medical training placements within NELFT
• Monitor feedback and improvement plans following on from annual National Training Survey (GMC) and National Education and Training Survey (NETS, HEE)
• Manage budget avoiding underspend / carry over as far as possible
The DME will:
