Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity providing a lifesaving rapid response emergency service to the people of Yorkshire and the surrounding area. The service delivers enhanced clinical care across a vast varied landscape including major cities, motorways, and rural areas 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Yorkshire Ambulance Service works in partnership with the YAA charity providing the paramedic staff, medical equipment, and clinical governance.
We have a vacancy for a permanent HEMS Team Leader, required to work across both YAA bases to ensure the safe, effective, and appropriate treatment and transportation of patients in our care.
Applicants must be a HCPC registered and qualified paramedic with at least 3 years post-qualification experience. You will be professional, assertive and tactful, able to evidence the ability to work as part of a team, along with the ability to work autonomously, and must be able to demonstrate your ability to meet the competence profile of the job description.

The Team Leader will be a dual role. Part of the role is operational on the aircraft, required to provide pre-hospital care across the region and surrounding area, providing assessment and transportation of patients in a safe and timely manner, using enhanced skills and practices in line with the Trust SOPs and national guidelines. Whilst the other element of the role is managerial supporting the YAA Operations Manager. .
The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of HEMS paramedics and HEMS critical care paramedics, including the responsibility for their coordination, welfare and safety whilst attending incidents. The role also requires the post holder to line manage the HEMS Paramedics on secondment, and deputise for the YAA Operations Manager, attending meetings with key stakeholders and senior board and management teams within the YAA charity.
The successful candidate will be expected to operate the Air desk effectively, to ensure specific and appropriate tasking of Yorkshire Air Ambulances, along with neighbouring services as and when required. In addition, there will be a requirement to supervise secondees and other members of the team as directed by the YAA Operations Manager.
Paramedics remain the employees of YAS and the Trust's terms and conditions of employment, including continuity of employment, will apply.

Assessment
After application, the process will consist of a formal interview.

• Shortlisting will take placemid June 2024.
For applicants not already HEMS trained, or those HEMS trained from outside YAS will be required to attend an assessment session. The dates for the assessments are to be confirmed.
Successful applicants will be expected to be available to commence operations or their HEMS course from 2nd September 2024.
Open Days
We are opening up the Nostell Air Support Unit for visits from Paramedics interested in applying for the position. These open days will allow you to meet some of the team, view the base, tour of the aircraft, see the rota pattern and ask questions to help you during the assessment process.
The dates set aside for the visits are:
• Friday 24th May 2024 at 18:30
• Friday 30th May 2024 at 18:30
• Tuesday 4th June 2024at 18:30
Please note- Dates may change slightly if operational pressures deem necessary.
