NE Asia
Represent Japan and South Korea in Departmental and cross-HMG initiatives (including the development of regional strategies), coordinating views of stakeholders and advocating for business and trade objectives.
Provide strategic oversight and support maintenance of governance structures for NE Asia (including the regional strategies)
Support ministerial requests – briefing ministers and senior officials on the issues in the region, accurately and sometimes at short notice.
Establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal stakeholders within the Department, including with Post, Trade Policy, Implementation and Negotiations Group (TPIN) sector and UK Trade Delivery colleagues to ensure a one DBT approach towards trade and investment in NE Asia.
Indo-Pac Delivery
Implement the ISTR Indo-Pacific strategy by identifying and monitoring performance targets and ensuring the team focuses activities on delivery against those targets. Provide monitoring and governance function that underpins all activities across the team.
Support the development of analysis that ensures the ISTR Indo-Pacific team focuses on markets that deliver the best results, working with our overseas teams.
Support the identification of synergies and sharing of best practice between Indo-Pacific team colleagues and wider ISTR/DBT to maximise the impact of activities.
Lead ISTR engagement with our teams based at our embassies/High Commissions in Cambodia, Brunei and Laos.
Supports ISTR engagement with our team in Myanmar, where the UK has a sanctions regime in place.
(There are no line management responsibilities in either role).
