This is a fixed term contract for 12 months with possibility of extension if the needs arise. The post consists of 7 programmed activities (PA’s).
Additional programmed activities may be available upon agreement.
Applicants must be fully registered with the GDC, have completed the appropriate specialty training programme (or be within 6 months of accreditation) or equivalent and be on the relevant GDC Specialist Register.

This is a Locum post, offering 7 programmed activities. The successful post holder will join 3 Consultant Orthodontists, 1 Orthodontic Therapists and a Specialty Doctor in Orthodontics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) To ensure the provision of a modern, comprehensive, referral based, consultant delivered orthodontic service to the population of Milton Keynes and surrounding areas served by the Trust with responsibilities for the diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of patients.
b) To be responsible for the activities within her or his sphere of special interest.
c) To take an active role in the local managed clinical network.
d) To observe the Trust’s agreed guidelines and procedures, on clinical matters and to follow the local and national employment Human Resources Policies and Procedures.
e) To ensure adequate arrangements are in place for two-way communication between hospital staff involved in the care of the post holder’s patients when necessary.
f) To professionally supervise, train and manage junior medical/dental staff including Specialist Registrars, as appropriate. Where appropriate the post holder will be named in the contracts of doctors in training grades as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as the initial source of advice to such doctors on their careers.
g) To be responsible for carrying out teaching and accreditation duties as required. This will involve contributing and participating in postgraduate and continuing medical/dental education activities both locally and nationally.
h) To endeavour to participate in research and to discuss any service or research development plans with the Clinical Director for agreement, prior to their submission for approval by the Trust.
i) To contribute and to participate in the Head and Neck Directorate’s clinical audit and annual appraisal programmes.
j) To work with the Clinical Director and professional colleagues to ensure the efficient running and management of services.

The job plan on appointment will consist of a split of 6 DCC/1 SPA (1 Core SPA). The SPA component is made up of core activities (appraisal, revalidation, CME, routine departmental meetings etc.) and non-core activities. Non-core activities are discussed and agreed within the Trust (via an agreed tariff and, on occasion, through ad personal agreement). Non-core SPA may reflect activities such as educational supervision, research, leadership and quality improvement. Following appointment, non-core SPA may be used to participate in our consultant development programme, or in acquiring or consolidating specific skills and expertise. Non-core SPA is only available if specific activities and objectives are mutually agreed in job planning.
