Sessions will be provided for patient-related administration and supporting patient activities. Successful applicants will be encouraged to develop a sub-speciality interest that complements the existing team.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is situated on The Wirral peninsula which has a stunning coastline and beautiful countryside surroundings, with great activities for its residents.

We are one of the largest and busiest acute Trusts in the North West of England, comprising of the Wirral’s only Emergency Department. We provide a high quality range of acute care services and employ over 6,000 staff, who serve a population of approximately 400,000 people across Wirral, Ellesmere Port, Neston, North Wales and the wider North West footprint.

We have approximately 855 beds trust-wide and our financial turnover is in excess of £337m.

The Wirral is easily accessible with excellent transport links including motorway, train, bus or ferry and within easy reach to the major cities of Liverpool, Chester and Manchester as well as neighbouring North Wales.

The contract assumes 10.25 sessions of professional activity amounting to 8.25 PA’s allocated as direct patient care and 2 PA’s to supporting professional activities. This would include teaching and training of junior doctors, CPD, audit and governance. There are regular good practice meeting replacing routine clinical work which has been factored into the allowance. In practice this amounts to 0.5 PA a week and the expectation, therefore, is that the routine week will consist of 8 PA’s allocated to direct patient care and 2.0 PA for supporting professional activity.

On call duties involve daytime ward rounds of the respiratory ward. Consultants are expected to take phone calls during the day and evenings, which would attract a 3% uplift. Consultants are very rarely called back to the Trust but are expected to in case of emergencies. Weekend on call work involves daily ward rounds of the 2 respiratory ward areas with experienced ANP support.
