About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin. Must be willing to travel.

Salary: £40,600 - £61,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

As a Controls Analyst, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of our internal control environment and assessing the results of assurance activity across the 4 lines of defence model. You will be responsible for evaluating, designing, and implementing internal controls to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. You will support embedding controls, risk and assurance minimum standards across the organisation. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to assess control effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and drive process enhancements.

As Controls Analyst, youll primarily be responsible for:

- Facilitating workshops and assessments to identify key controls mitigating risks. Capturing detailed information, strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. Developing strategies for control effectiveness. Providing training and support business and control owners and designing dashboard and reporting tools.

- Working with stakeholders to design and implement internal control and assurance frameworks aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements. Developing policies and procedures to standardise risk, control, and assurance processes. Providing guidance to business units for implementing and maintaining effective controls.

- Identifying and assessing risks and control gaps in business processes, systems, and operations. Developing strategies to mitigate risks and enhance controls. Monitoring regulatory changes and industry standards to ensure compliance and address emerging risks. Continuously reviewing material controls to address changes in principal risks across the Group.

- Supporting SSE Groups control strategy and integrated assurance transformation. Executing communication and change strategies to ensure smooth program management and minimise resistance. Address challenges proactively to keep transformation efforts on track. Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and learning. Staying updated on industry trends and integrating new insights into transformational initiatives.

- Collaborating with a wide range of business units to understand business processes and control requirements. Building strong stakeholder relationships to promote accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. Providing training on internal control policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure effective controls.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Experience of internal controls, risk management, audit, or a related field, with a focus on designing, implementing, and evaluating internal controls. A track record of leading internal control projects and driving process improvements in a complex, multi-functional environment. Familiarity with agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban would be advantageous.

- Strong understanding of internal control frameworks, such as COSO, and ideally regulatory requirements. A qualification or professional certification related to the fields of internal controls, assurance, risk management, or equivalent is preferred but not essential.

- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess risks, gather and analyse data, identify trends, and develop practical solutions. Experience in data analytics and visualisation would be advantageous.

- Effective communication and influencing skills with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. Experience with GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) software is preferred but not essential.
