An opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Otolaryngology / Head & Neck Surgery at University Hospitals Bristol NHS trust. We are looking for an individual to join our large department to deal with the expanding workload of the department which is a regional centre for paediatric otolaryngology, major head and neck surgery, skull base surgery, major ear surgery and hearing implantation.

We are looking to appoint a Consultant ENT surgeon with a sub-specialist interest in Head and Neck surgery, with experience of robotic surgery. This is a new additional post. The candidate will be expected to have a broad experience of treating ENT conditions in both adults and children, and take part in the on-call rota alongside existing members of the department. As the department acts as a regional centre for paediatric ENT experience in dealing with the range of emergency presentations in this area is essential. There will also be the opportunity for cross-specialty working with Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery and Maxillofacial surgery to tackle complex cases in adults and children.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will contribute to the academic, research and teaching aspects of the post as it is based within the major regional teaching hospital. As a result, a higher degree (such as an MD or PhD), with research experience is highly desirable. A fellowship in their chosen field is essential.

Newly created full time post.

Clinical:

Clinical duties include outpatient clinics, operating and emergency care. These activities occur in the University Hospitals Bristol precinct, North Bristol Trust (Southmead Hospital) and Weston General Hospital

The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, the completion of discharge summaries prior to patients being discharged, following the specified process for the management of patients that do not attend (DNA) their appointment or admission, and the completion of allpaperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales. Consultants are also expected to work with service managers and clinical colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure both clinical, national and local priorities, such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment, are achieved.
