Job summaryApplications are invited for an enthusiastic and forward thinking locum Cellular Pathologist to join our existing team of consultants in the field of Dermatopathology.
Applicants are expected to have a strong background in Cellular Pathology and be able to work as part of a multiple sub-specialised team.
Primary reporting and MDT provision is undertaken using digital pathology using the Indica Halo AP system, which is UKAS accredited. Full training and support transition to digital reporting will be provided.
Main duties of the jobYou will be supported by a well-established experienced specialist reporting team. The appointee, in collaboration with the other Consultants will be expected to fulfil the duties detailed in Job description
Main duties
- To actively participate in both departmental and trust matters concerning Cellular Pathology.
- Share appropriate clinical responsibility for Cellular Pathology along with the consultant team.
- To actively participate in both Departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit
- Participate in MDT meetings
- Undertake surgical cut up when required
- Teaching and training
The Cellular pathology service is split across 2 campuses (QMC and NCH) .We process in excess 110,000 surgical specimens, 8000 non-gynaecological cytology cases and 1500 postmortems (the majority for HM Coroner) per annum including use of CTPM technology.
The Department is already scanning and reporting using digital pathology and the appointee will be given the opportunity to contribute to the future development of this technology. The department is forward thinking and applies six sigma and lean processes through out the service.
Job description
To provide a comprehensive Histopathology diagnostic service, including full clinical liaison, to:
Clinicians at NUH.
Other users of the histopathology service in the greater Nottingham health community.
Other hospitals that hold service level agreements for specialist services with NUH.
To be involved in the training of Specialty Trainees, scientific and BMS staff.
Provision of reciprocal cover for periods of leave
To contribute, as required, to the teaching of pathology to undergraduates and postgraduates within the Medical School of University of Nottingham.
To take part in Medical Audit and Quality Control.
To pursue a programme of Continuous Professional and Medical Education/ Development (CME/CPD) with the Royal College of Pathologists
To participate in annual Individual Performance Reviews (IPR) and Consultant appraisals.
To contribute to the requirements of Clinical Governance. To share in the administrative duties associated with the running of a clinical laboratory
Person Specification
education and occupational attainments Essential- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- FRCPath or equivalent
- Evidence of continuing professional development (existing consultants must be able to demonstrate active participation in a recognised CPD scheme).
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in: Dermatopathology
- Demonstrate active interest in developments in Dermatopathology
- Demonstrates experience in undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching.
- Demonstrates ability to foster and promote the delivery of the clinical diagnostic services of the laboratory.
