Summary


This 10 PA per week Consultant Clinical Oncologist post with the following responsibilities in the radiotherapy and systemic therapy treatments in:
• Urological cancer (urothelial / prostate)
• Colorectal cancer

Colorectal Cancer

You will be joining an enthusiastic multidisciplinary team treating colorectal cancers at Nottingham City Hospital. NUH has an excellent colorectal cancer service, is a tertiary referral centre within the region for early and advanced disease, with an active programme in clinical research supported by tumour site specific research nurses. The colorectal cancer service at NUH continues to expand with specialised multi-professional meetings covering the full spectrum of colorectal cancer from early to advanced presentations.

Within the supportive team, you will be working closely with colleagues and radiographers to deliver optimal techniques (IMRT) in rectal cancer radiotherapy planning and delivery, be responsible for patients undergoing adjuvant and palliative systemic treatment for colorectal cancer and participating in clinical trials. Urological cancer at Kings Mill Hospital (KMH)You will be part of an expanding, enthusiastic multidisciplinary team which has successfully integrated the Sherwood Forest and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust teams to provide a state-of-the-art, comprehensive uro-oncology service for the North-East Midlands, encompassing SABR (oligometastatic and pelvic retreatment) and IG-IMRT. We have a lively portfolio of clinical trials encompassing both evolving RT techniques (including primary prostate SABR) and novel systemic therapies. Through this, we have developed the infrastructure to deliver these treatments when they become standard of care. We have strong links with Lincoln, who provide prostate LDR and HDR brachytherapy for the region, as well as salvage treatments. We have an established holistic support service for our patients, comprising the CNS team and specialist radiographers, who provide psychosexual support and the late effects service. We are also piloting a pre-hab service for patients with bladder cancer. Our peer review meeting provides opportunity for education and support, particularly for new colleagues, and allows us to regularly review protocols and implement changes in a timely manner. Number of new patients per year in your clinic approximates at 100, with 150 patients on follow-up or active treatment.

The post is based at Nottingham University Hospital, City Campus (NCH) with all the radiotherapy facilities based at this site. It does outreach work to Kingmill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield for urological cancers.

The speciality serves a resident population of 1.1 million and currently sees approximately 5,000 new patients each year (at City Hospital and Kingsmill); providing a comprehensive range of non-surgical oncology services to the East Midlands.

Oncology has invested in a high calibre acute oncology nursing team supporting the acute care of cancer patients admitted to city hospital campus as well as providing outreach support at Queen’s medical centre.
