Job Advert

Director of Hockey - full time from January 2025

Hockey is a principal sport at Denstone, being the main game for girls in the Autumn Term and the leading boys’ sport in the
Spring. It is played across both the prep and senior schools, with 40 teams over the course of the year. It is the fastest growing
sport in the College, in terms of participation, which reflects the enthusiasm of students for the game. Teams compete in tier One
competitions for both boys and girls.

Many players are involved in England Hockey performance pathways. The development of a high performance support programme for the
able and ambitious players will be a priority for this role, but inspiring all pupils to love the game and participate
enthusiastically is equally important.

The successful candidate will lead all aspects of Hockey, in both senior and prep school. S/he will be a passionate ambassador for
the game, and for the reputation of the school in the area. It is important that operational logistics are of top quality, and
that the game fits seamlessly into the wider school programme. Liaison with support staff, and communication with teachers and
parents will be vital. The ability to ensure high quality administration of matches, practices, travel, catering, umpires and
other supporting processes is essential. Maintaining positive relationships with relevant external bodies, including feeder
schools, counties, universities and England Hockey will be a significant part of the role. This is a rare opportunity for an
ambitious and experienced Hockey professional to establish a programme where enjoyment and success are equally important.

Denstone College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all our staff to
share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS and pre-employment checks.
