Role summary To assist matrons and senior nurses to drive forward nursing practice to further develop quality patient centred care and ensure nursing is at the forefront of innovation and high performance To assist Matrons and senior nurses in the provision of a supportive and caring environment for junior nurses and other health care professionals. Act as a personal and professional role model. Acknowledge and address areas of knowledge or skill deficiency. Participate as core trainer for clinical skills according to own knowledge, skill base and opportunity Key responsibilities 1. Act in the best interest of patients, ensuring quality service is provided at all times 2. Act as a clinical leader in the provision of support and advice to ward and junior medical staff. 3. Participate in the monitoring, planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care. NM- NS 805 4. Demonstrate good interpersonal/communication skills in a multidisciplinary setting. 5. Ensure Trust clinical policies and procedures are adhered to. 6. Act as clinical support and provide advice to nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team. 7. Provide evidence of on-going clinical development by the maintenance of a professional portfolio 8. Provide evidence of mentorship and development of junior staff 9. Act in the best interest of patients, ensuring quality service is provided at all times 10. Act as a clinical leader in the provision of support and advice to ward and junior medical staff. 11. Participate in the monitoring, planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care. 12. Demonstrate good interpersonal/communication skills in a multidisciplinary setting. 13. Ensure Trust clinical policies and procedures are adhered to. 14. Act as clinical support and provide advice to nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team. 15. The post holder has a responsibility to keep aware of the latest thinking taking place in the Trust and within the health care setting. 16. Develop and agree a personal development plan with mentor yearly. 17. Support staff learning within the clinical area. 18. Act as assessor within the clinical areas for staff developing new skills. 19. To act as a resource for educational information, increasing staff awareness 20. Attend and actively participate in meetings. 21. According to need move staff to ensure best fit skill mix for the dependency of the patient group. 22. Support member of staff and manager/matron to ensure acceptable standards attained. 23. Be aware of staff development needs and liaise with matrons regarding staff not performing to expected standards 24. Act as first line (bleep holder) for nurse manager issues, i.e. staff deployment, sickness.
