Summary

The Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies has five successful and dynamic schools: Liverpool Screen School; Liverpool School of Art and Design' School of Education; School of Humanities and Social Science and the School of Justice Studies. We are looking for a talented technical manager to lead on technical operations across our creative and immersive programmes.

The role

You will act as the technical lead in creative and immersive subject areas (media, film, journalism, immersive, production and performance, hydra and police training simulation, drones, UAVs, etc.) but will be part of a larger faculty-based team focused on delivering an outstanding student experience to all of our undergraduate, postgraduate and research students. You will have overall responsibility for the leadership, development and organisation of specialist technical teams and work closely with senior managers and academics to ensure their delivery needs are understood and met. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who wishes to develop in an education focussed technical role in an interesting and vibrant faculty.

Key aspects of the role

  • Team leadership: You will oversee the delivery of an efficient and effective technical service and will line manage team members with their own area of technical expertise, balancing their support whilst empowering them to deploy their individual skill to support the teaching and other service needs in their areas.

  • Operational management: You will manage the delivery of technical teaching across our creative and immersive subject areas, ensuring a high standard of provision that stays abreast of technical and curriculum developments.

  • Planning: You will support and inform the longer-term planning of the service to ensure it meets the needs of creative and immersive subject areas. You will use your knowledge to inform the purchase of new equipment and software to best support teaching and other service needs.

  • Health and Safety management: You will have experience of implementing, managing and monitoring systems to ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.


Applicants should have:

  • Experience of managing a team of technical experts (ideally within HE) and providing support whilst respecting their professional autonomy and expertise.

  • Experience of working within a relevant context such as media, film, journalism, immersive, production and performance, hydra and police training simulation and/or drones and UAVs and detailed technical knowledge of software and technical equipment in these areas.

  • The ability to build and maintain co-operative relationships at all levels across the faculty and wider university and a willingness to interact with our students and academics in a confident and friendly manner.

  • Experience of managing budgets with a focus on delivering value and technological enhancement.

  • Experience of managing safety regulations and procedures including events and performances, working at height, electrical safety, noise, manual handling, lifting operations and lifting equipment, remotely piloted aircraft systems.
