Psychological Therapies – AMH Crisis & Community Sessions

Based at Woodlands Unit, Queen Marys Hospital and Erith Centre

12 month Fixed Term or Secondment Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to work full-time in an innovative role across two services in Bexley – Acute Inpatient and Community – to improve continuity of care for adult mental health clients. We wish to recruit an enthusiastic Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with a commitment to both multidisciplinary team working and working with adults presenting with complex mental health difficulties. The continuity role which sits across the two teams is now well-established and valued. You will be welcomed into a well-established and very supportive group of Oxleas Adult Mental Health psychological therapists.

The post is split equally across the Woodlands inpatient unit and the Bexley Intensive Case Management for Psychosis (ICMP) team.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in delivering CBT for Psychosis and Family Interventions for Psychosis, or a willingness to develop these skills through training. Specialist supervision in CBT and Family Interventions for Psychosis is provided, and there is access to further training in these and other approaches. Oxleas has a vibrant CPD Programme and opportunities may be available to work in other areas as part of CPD.

Full time, part-time and Job Share applications will be considered for this role

The acute inpatient crisis service offers both direct evidence-based psychological interventions and indirect work to impact on wider environment. As a Band 8a Psychologist you would provide psychological assessment, brief crisis interventions to improve the care pathway into the community, group interventions, individual psychological therapy and risk formulations, crisis planning, input to care planning and discharge planning, family interventions, reflective practice groups for staff.

The community-based part of the role in the ICMP involves continuing psychological input into clients' care as they move on from the ward into the local community team. The role also includes conducting complex psychological assessment for both CBT for Psychosis and Family Intervention as well as delivering one-to-one and group therapy, supervising trainee psychologists, assistant psychologists and qualified psychologists; offering advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to a range of wider services. There is potential for input also into a systemic family clinic linked to the service.

The successful candidates will join highly skilled multi-professional teams that offers mental health services across the London Borough of Bexley. The teams includes clinical and counselling psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, mental health nurses and psychiatrists.

Oxleas offers a wide range of NHS healthcare services to people in community and secure environment settings. Our multidisciplinary teams look after people of all ages and we work in close partnership with other parts of the NHS, local councils and the voluntary sector and through our new provider collaboratives. Our 4,300 members of staff work in many different settings including hospitals, clinics, prisons, secure hospitals, children’s centres, schools and people’s homes.

We have over 125 sites in a variety of locations in the South of England. In London we operate within the Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley Greenwich and into Kent. We manage hospital sites including Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup and Memorial Hospital, Woolwich, as well as the Bracton Centre, our medium secure unit for people with mental health needs. We are the largest NHS provider of prison health services providing healthcare to prisons within Devon, Dorset, Bristol, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, Kent and South London. We are proud of the care we provide and our people.

Our purpose is to improve lives by providing the best possible care to our patients and their families. This is strengthened by our new values:

It is expected that the postholder will make a significant contribution to the staff teams via training, supervision, reflective practice, consultation and psychological formulation. This is welcomed by both teams, where psychology is highly valued.
