This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated, highlyexperiencedand passionate Physiotherapist to help lead an integrated surgery therapy team in the role of a Clinical Team Leader.We are looking for an innovative, patient focused therapist with a passion for the management of patients with acute surgical conditions. You will have a wide range of clinical experience and the leadership qualities needed to inspire and support a team of physiotherapists, occupational therapistsand integrated therapy assistants to consistently deliver safe,personaland effective care to our patients.You will have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills that will enable you to act as an advocate for patients with complex surgical and social care needs and promote the role of therapies within the Surgery division.Within Acute Therapies we will offer the following support:Professional support via the Head of Acute Therapies, Clinical Service Leads and Advanced Clinical Practice colleagues. An individualised job plan which includes protected service development time and regular clinical supervision,signpostingand support for continuous CPD and leadership training.Opportunity to contribute to wider departmental developments via working party groups. Working within the multidisciplinary teams, act as the Clinical Lead for the designated service area providinga high levelof clinicalexpertisewith regard tohighly specialist assessment skills and interactions within a defined patient group.


Provide operationaland line management to a designated teamin the delivery of a highly effective,safeand personal service, delivered around the needs of individual patients/carers as described by agreed goals/outcome measuresandwithin defined clinical pathways. 


 An activememberof the leadership structure, the postholder willcontribute toward the strategicoperationaland clinical development of the service.  


Provide teaching and highly specialist support in the management of complex conditions, educating other healthcare professionals and wider stakeholders.  
The service operating hours are 8am – 8pm across 7 days.

There is a requirement to work on call.

1. To provide clinical leadership and highly specialisedexpertiseto a defined patient group to ensure that pathways, standards, competencies,trainingand monitoring are in placefor the designated team,using agreed clinical pathways.

1. Undertakecomprehensive assessmentsat a highly specialist level,set patient centred goals, create evidence-based treatment plans, monitor, and evaluate a designated caseload of patients.
2. Interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical factors including physical, environmental, psychosocial, mental, and cultural aspects of the patient’s life. To provide advice and intervention to facilitatean optimumlevel of function.

1. Formulate goals in partnership with the patient, clearly communicating your clinical reasoning to justify your recommendations and utilising mostappropriate treatment / interventionfor the patients’ needs.

1. Responsible for the effective management of a complexcaseload individually and within team,requiring allocationand reallocation of workon a daily basisto meet changing clinical prioritiesand adherence to quality and performance measures.


1. Contribute to the widermultidisciplinary team to provideevidence-basedexpertisewithin your specialist area.

1. Contribute to the creation and review of procedures,standardsand guidancerelating to clinical practiceandmonitoreffectiveness.

1. Liaise with peers and specialist interest groups both regionally and nationally, to collaborate, share learning and develop shared resources to achieve standardised, best practice within your clinical area.

1. Ensure the service provided by yourself and your team is safe,personaland effective. Achieving compliance to governance standards through monitoring, performance,incident reporting,risk management, outcome measures, patient experience,complimentsand complaints.

1. Assesscapacityof patientsin order togain valid informed consent for intervention and work within organisational policywith patients who lackcapacity.

1. Initiate and organisereviews involving multiagency partners, taking the role of key worker, coordinator whererequired.


COMMUNICATION

1. Communicate with professionals,patientsand families/carersin a professionalmannerandappropriatetothe individual using a range of mediumsand techniquesincluding letters,reports, groups,verbal,emailsand onward referral.

1. Act as an advocate on behalf of patients.

1. Deal with challenging situations using conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

1. Provide early intervention of HR issues such as performance, disputes, behaviour, sickness etc with the support of HR and operational management.

1. Advise and supportyour team inadapting communication skills to meet individualpatient’sneeds.



TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

1. Ensure compliance withmandatory trainingfor yourself and your team.

1. Take responsibility for own professional developmentand the development of your team using a training needs analysisand competency frameworkacrossa variety of settings and patient groups and clinical pathways.

1. Provide regular supervision and feedback to your team tofacilitateself-development.

1. Plan, organise and deliver training to students, assistants, juniorstaffand colleaguesincluding wider multi-disciplinary team and other agencies asrequired.

1. Lead on andparticipatein research and development activities asrequired.

1. Provide training to other health care professions, both undergraduate and post graduate level.

1. Review,updateand produce guidelines/procedures and educational resources that reflect national guidance/clinical standards and evidence-based practice.


ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Work closely with the operational service lead,Head ofServiceand clinical leads to interpret and implement Trust andDirectorate targets, national guidelines and AHP strategies within your specialist area.


1. Actively contribute to the development and delivery of the TherapiesDirectorateandservicelevelbusinessandimprovementplans.

1. Undertake line management duties including rostering,job planning,appraisals, clinical supervision, approval of travel expenses, sickness monitoring and support etc.

1. Undertake a team leader role in the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluation of thedesignated clinical service.

1. Identifyareas for,leadand implement, continual improvement, underpinned byevidence-basedpractice.

1. Lead on theperformance management of thedesignated clinicalteam across a range of Quality, Delivery, Finance and People measures.

1. Lead on the recruitment and retention of staff, ensuring competency frameworks are in place, supporting staff through probationary and preceptorship with training and feedback. Facilitate the ongoing development of your team andfacilitaterotations of clinical staffwhereappropriate,

1. Assistthe service in involvingservice users, their families and carers in service evaluation and associated developments.

1. Be responsible fordeputising for the Clinical and Operational Service leads.

To manage and undertake research into specific areas of clinical practice and service delivery using a range of research methodologies as part of multi-disciplinary team audit anddepartmental research initiatives.
2. Be actively involved in professional clinical groups, clinical interest groups, peer review, ICS wide review and standardisation of services and professional development initiatives.
3. Promote awareness of the professional role within the Trust and externally.
