Summary

Applications are invited for the post of Biological Safety Officer reporting to both the Health and Safety Office and the Department of Biological Sciences.
This role is a critical friend, focusing on ensuring the university maintains the highest standards of biological safety, including genetically modified organisms. The Department operates several labs with the highest being at Containment Level 2; knowledge and experience working in these environments is essential, as it at least a master’s degree in Biological Science or an associated subject.
The role will conduct periodic audits on the Department as well as attending the relevant committees, taking about 35 hours per annum. This will require travelling to the Egham campus less than 4-6 days a year on campus for a day. They will also be able to provide advice as available, likely remotely, but travel to campus may be required on occasion. This will require the production of report with the required level of technical details and a knowledge of best and developing practice within the field. They must be able to be a credible expert in this area and be able to communicate with a range of stakeholders, including summarising complex scientific information as required.
