Walsall NHS Trust in conjunction with NHS England (NHS E) are excited to offer fully funded shortened midwifery training for a total of 300 students per year across NHSE regions. The funding includes:
• A consistent salary support offer for all students.
• A tuition fee contribution of up to £9,250 per student per annum, pro rata for the length of the course

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic, and compassionate Nurses with a desire to become duel qualified and practice as a registered Midwife at Walsall Healthcare NHS
We look forward to you joining our fabulous team. You will have opportunities to gain experience in all areas of maternity services including antenatal, intrapartum, community midwifery and postnatal care. We also offer many specialist midwifery roles
Once qualified we offer an 18-month preceptorship programme for newly qualified midwives with a wide variety of training, nationally recognised training such as PROMPT, access to mentors and peer support groups to support your personal and career development objectives.
We place our woman, babies, and their families at the center of our service. We are a consultant led unit with a dedicated Midwifery Led Unit and deliver care to a diverse population with complex medical and social needs working alongside an amazing team of Specialist Midwives.
Our shift patterns are flexible 7.5 & 12 hours long (days, nights and weekend working); you will work alongside your midwifery Supervisor in all clinical areas.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and brand new, state of the art Emergency Department is in the process of being completed.

Clinical

The assessment, planning, implementing and evaluations of Midwifery care for mothers and babies (with your midwifery mentor / supervisor)

To provide support and care for the woman/baby and her family respecting their need for privacy and dignity.

Management

Contribute to quality improvement.

Led others in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice.

Professional Development

Undertake Midwifery care consistent with evidence-based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet woman’s/families’ needs.

Priorities and participate in developing care pathways to reflect women’s health and well-being related to needs following risk assessment

Contribute to the development of a positive learning environment.

Child Protection

All employees have a duty and a responsibility to protect and safeguard children.

Have an awareness of the child protection procedures and who to contact. Within the Trust for further help and guidance

Support

We have an amazing midwifery and practice development midwifery team who will work closely with you in conjunction with our Quality lead Midwifery Team, who are midwives dedicated to supporting and developing our staff. We aim to Inspire and support our midwives of the future to realise their full potential as autonomous practitioners valuing normality whilst being able to support the high-risk pathway.

We also have an active team of Professional Midwifery Advocates to further enhance the support we can offer our midwives and families.
