The Senior Safety Engineer should have the following competencies.
Our Senior Safety Engineer will act as the Subject Matter Expert in Product Safety to all of Marshall Aerospace engineering activities include. The role will promote best practice within the wider business and support engineering governance in Safety aspects of our projects and maintain safety processes, tools and templates, train and provide advice the engineering team and undertake safety assessments also depending on their significance. Reporting to the Chief Engineer the Senior Safety Engineer is responsible for:
- Promoting and upholding the company values and procedures and adhering to Safety best practice.
- Being intrinsic in helping develop an organisational culture of Safety.
- Communicating clearly being able to inspire both our internal and external customers in the management of Safety its importance and benefits.
- Keeping informed of changes to Safety regulation and any specific customer Safety policies and briefing / advising the Engineering function.
- Ensuring engineering's Product Safety processes are current and incorporated into the Engineering process and gate reviews appropriately.
- Providing coaching and guidance in Safety process to the Engineering function, including the use of Functional Hazard Assessment, Particular Risk Assessment, Zonal Assessment, Fault Trees and the ability to build a coherent safety argument that meets safety objectives.
- Being able to develop or approve task estimates and responsible for their delivery on time and budget when allocated.
- Facilitating Safety Working Groups for projects and supporting Safety Review Boards in agreeing safety objectives and associated mitigations
- Support the Investigation of any in-service safety incidents and the follow on airworthiness recommendations where required
- Proactively review project / product Safety documentation in line with project milestones and supporting the associated Design Reviews to ensure projects have achieved the correct maturity.
The Senior Safety Engineer should have the following competencies.
- Sound understanding of Product Safety Engineering methods and processes associated with aerospace regulation.
- Good IT skills, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to apply your skills and knowledge across a wide and diverse range of projects.
- Ability to work accurately and at pace.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with energy and enthusiasm to all levels within and outside of the business.
- Proven experience of supporting team members to deliver and develop through coaching and guidance.
- Demonstrable experience of development of Safety documentation in accordance with standard aerospace practises including the use of Functional Hazard Assessment, Particular Risk Assessment, Zonal Assessment, Fault Trees, and the ability to build a coherent safety argument that meets safety objectives.
- Demonstrable experience of providing product safety training and guidance to project / product delivery teams
- Demonstrable experience of product safety governance activities including design reviews
- Significant experience in an aerospace engineering environment
- Desirable - MSc in System Safety Engineering
- Desirable - to have made progress towards achieving professional accreditation IEng/CEng
