We are looking for enthusiastic, committed, and hardworking individuals to join our Children’s ED team.

You must be able to work well under pressure and have a willingness to learn and develop your own skills. If this is you, we would be delighted to hear from you.

You will be expected to provide the highest standard of evidence based; patient centered care.

You will have a passion for education training and development of staff which ultimately impact on the patients.

Most importantly, you will share our PRIDE values and our desire to continue to improve. Our busy Children's Emergency Departments cover two sites - Queens Hospital in Romford and King George's Hospital in Goodmayes.

We deliver a comprehensive range of general Paediatric and Surgical Services to our local communities. These are amongst the busiest Children's EDs in the country and we are always looking to build our team to provide the best service possible.

Our CED team is constantly expanding, to support this you will be learning and developing your knowledge whilst ensuring your skills are kept fully up to date.

You will be supported by our Practice Development Nurses, Senior Sisters/Charge Nurse, Matrons and members of the wider MDT Team.

• To provide fundamental care to patients to enable them to maintain privacy and dignity
• To ensure patients in the department are comfortable
• To assist children and young people to meet their hygiene needs if required
• To carry out and record physiological measurements or patients i.e. blood pressure, pulse, temperature and respirations at intervals identified by the Registered nurse
• To act upon findings and escalate where appropriate. Escalating any deterioration or changes to a registered nurse
• To perform venepuncture and cannulation independently once competence
• To ensure safe to fly completed
• To communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, their relatives and all members of the multi-disciplinary team in accordance with the Trusts standards on confidentiality
• To maintain universal precautions and dispose of waste in accordance with the Trust’s infection control policy
• To report and hazards to the nurse in charge and clean up spillages immediately
• To carry out general housekeeping, ensuring all areas of the department are clean and tidy
• Ensure all areas are fully stocked to maintain levels across the unit as directed by the nurse in charge



We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way inreducing the time our patientswait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to beaccredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of theNorth East London Cancer Alliance.
