Summary

A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.


Interviews are due to take place early June.

This is a 12-month post starting as soon as possible These posts offer the opportunity for trainees, who have achieved competencies at minimum ST3 level, to consolidate their clinical skills while working in a tertiary maternity unit. There will be opportunity to participate in ATSM skills modules if core competencies in log book have been completed.These posts include out-of-hours duty, as part of a full shift 1B rota. The on call rota is 1:8 which is EWTD compliant. There is a three tier on call system. The post holders will form part of this on call rota.

The on call distribution is as follows:

Twilight 5.30 pm – 9.00 pm usually 5 in 8 weeks

Nights 8.30 pm – 09.00 am Monday to Thursday 1 in 8 weeks

Day weekend 8.30 am – 09.00 pm Friday to Sunday 1 in 8 weekends

Night weekend 8.30 pm – 09.00 am Friday to Sunday 1 in 8 weekends

There is an extra morning weekend 1 : 24 weeks 08:30 - 15:30 Saturday and Sunday.

Day time work will be distributed on weekly basis attending variety of antenatal, gynaecology outpatients, obstetric or Gynaecology theatres, covering gynaecology emergencies or labour ward. The post holder will be part of a team and will be responsible to do ward rounds on their patients in that team and discuss with the relevant consultant.

We do encourage applicants to have a special interest session which can be allocated to each post depending on availability and candidate interests.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology falls under the management of the Women and Children’s Clinical Group, one of the largest Clinical Groups within the Trust. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is located within the West Wing in the teaching hospital site at Coventry and includes regional Neonatal ICU, SCBU, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Emergency Assessment Unit, Colposcopy and Hysteroscopy suite, Fetal Well Being Unit and The Centre for Reproductive Medicine. The department sees over 6000 births, 2500 gynaecological emergencies and 4000 elective gynaecology cases annually.

UNDERGRADUATE AND POST GRADUATE EDUCATION

Teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates is an essential part of the normal commitments in this teaching hospital. The post holder will be expected to take an active role in the teaching of medical students and junior medical staff.

There is a dedicated teaching on Friday afternoon with the knowledge and Library services twice a month, weekly obstetric quality of care meetings and a monthly audit and QIPS meetings. The unit runs PROMPT training days (Practical Obstetric Multiprofessioal Training) throughout the year.

RESEARCH

We have a portfolio of ongoing projects and would encourage and support trainees to undertake research projects or case reports of their own. Please discuss your requirements with your trainer.
