Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Breast Surgery Department as a Medical Secretary.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organization skills, strong typing skills and knowledge of medical terminology to ensure provision of a high quality and efficient administrative/secretarial service to the Family History Consultants and their team.

Your role will also involve assisting in the management of referral to treatment (RTT) and cancer pathways; working with the management and clinical teams to ensure delays are resolved and pathways are managed appropriately.

You must have good attention to detail together with the ability to prioritise your own workload to meet deadlines. Duties will include dealing with telephone enquiries, letters, email, diaries, chasing deadlines, collation of information/results for reports and typing of clinic letters.

You should have previous secretarial experience as well as being flexible and able to work as part of a team. In return we will provide a comprehensive induction with a view to developing knowledge and skills where appropriate.

The post holder will provide medical transcription and administrative support on attachment to clinical teams; guided by standard operating procedures.

Proof reading letters to patients, GPs, medical staff and any other required addressee following clinic attendance, ward discharge and other patient contacts.

Carry out administrative instructions that are dictated in the letters transcribed e.g. chasing results.

Undertake routine office duties including electronic case note tracking, photocopying, scanning and uploading correspondence and results and maintenance of records when required.

Provide cover in times of sickness, annual leave and staff shortages.

Deal with telephone communications and patient queries.

Liaise with relevant departments where necessary.
