Summary


We are looking for a Dietetic Assistant to support the Dietetic service with the management of adult oral nutrition prescriptions.

Applicants would benefit from experience working in a health care setting with direct patient contact. Ability to use the patient administration system EMIS would be desirable. Training will be given for the role.

The post holder would be working with adult patients suffering from malnutrition where intervention is required to support meeting nutritional requirements. These patients may suffer from a variety of medical conditions. They maybe in their own homes or Care Homes. They can be of any age but the majority will be over 65 years of age.

The post holder would be based at Brierfield Health Centre but would be expected at times to visit Care Homes and other localities across East Lancashire to review the progress of patients. The majority of duties are telephone or computer based. The post holder will be required to:
• Support the Community Nutritional Support Dietitians with the prescription management of patients receiving oral nutritional supplements.
• Carry their own caseload of patients that have been stepped down from the Dietitians. Patients will have previously been assessed by a Dietitian and will have treatment plans in place.
• Administration duties related to patients in own caseload and those of the adult oral prescription management service.

The post holder would be part of community nutritional support team based at Brierfield Health Centre. The team is part of the wider Dietetic department of more than 90 staff who look after the 5 hospitals and the communities of East Lancashire.

The Dietetic Department use the patient record administration system EMIS and Cerner. The EMIS system is used not only for patient records, but recording of data and using the task function for requesting prescriptions.


• Supporting the Dietitians with the management of patients receiving oral nutritional supplements on prescription which will include sending tasks on EMIS to the relevant GP surgeries when an initial patient prescription is required or when a patient telephones for a repeat prescription.
• Carrying own caseload of non-complex step down patients. Patients will have previously been assessed by a Dietitian and will have treatment plans in place. Assessment will be mainly via telephone, however at times it will be via domicilary visit or clinic. Assessment will include identifying to the supervising Dietitians any patients where there are concerns or where the patient has met their goal
• Liaising with Dietitians, patients, carers, care homes, other Health Care staff
