An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow (Registrar grade) to join the dynamic Paediatric Gastroenterology Department at Nottingham Children’s Hospital, Queen’s Medical Centre in August 2024 for a period of 12 months. This is a full time post with no out-of-hours responsibility.

The post will be suitable for candidates who wish to augment their training within the sub-specialty of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (PGHAN). With plenty of opportunity for experience in paediatric endoscopy and JAG accredited endoscopy trainers, training in paediatric endoscopy will be encouraged depending on the needs of the candidate.

The post will also be suitable for Senior Trainees who wish to gain some experience within the specialty prior to embarking on a formal training programme elsewhere.

The appointee will be expected to fulfil the duties included with the agreed Job Plan. This includes clinical, teaching and research responsibilities.

The department of Paediatric Gastroenterology at Nottingham Children’s Hospital is a tertiary service serving a population of 2.6 million. We provide comprehensive tertiary inpatient and outpatient Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition services for the local community in Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and parts of Leicestershire. Within the children’s hospital the department provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic services. It works closely with the neonatal surgical service and runs the nutritional rehabilitation programme including looking after children on home PN.

There is a collaborative working arrangement with adult gastroenterology with who we look after a growing cohort of adolescents with IBD going through the transition programme. There are Regional Liver clinics with visiting colleagues from Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary.

In addition to the functions provided by the Nutrition Support Team the specialty provides consultations for a number of co-located services including surgery, renal transplant, paediatric intensive care, spinal surgery, oncology and general paediatrics.
