We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team at the Darwin Centre. The Darwin Centre is a General Adolescent Unit providing care and treatment to young people between the ages of 12-18yo with different diagnoses. We are looking for highly motivated staff who wish to progress in their career and develop highly specialised skills necessary to support the young people under our care.

We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist who is able to demonstrate a commitment to creative engagement with a culturally diverse population of our service group, shows initiative, demonstrates excellent leadership skills, is a team player and is able to communicate ideas clearly to both professionals and those who use our service.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a clinical leader who ensures that the highest standards of evidenced based nursing care are provided. The post holder will provide inspirational specialist nursing leadership within the team, including specialist assessments and nursing interventions to service users.

This post is central to the delivery of clinically based support, education, training and development of the nursing team. Working with the Ward Manager, the CNS will develop and embed evidence based clinical nursing practice within the team through implementation and facilitation of clinically based education, training and skills development for nurses.

The CNS is a clinical specialist in Child and Adolescent mental health and is knowledgeable and skilled in managing groups and teams. The main part of the work will be with adolescent inpatients at The Darwin Centre, with additional expectation to collaborate with other Clinical Nurse Specialists and Ward Managers within Tier 4 and to input across the children’s inpatient wards. The CNS will have their own area of clinical skill/interest and will provide direct clinical work within the service.

1. To ensure that a therapeutic milieu is maintained by supporting the nursing team and the therapeutic structure
2. To take a lead role in ensuring that a high standard of multi-disciplinary care planning is in place and to be accountable for the nursing contribution to the process. To ensure that the nursing team provide accurate and high-quality patient records
3. To contribute to staff supervision, both group and individual
4. To support nursing staff to improve their understanding of the client group.
5. To maintain personal and professional development by providing direct clinical work to individuals and their families with appropriate evidence-based intervention e.g. CBT, DBT skills, Trauma Informed care, Systemic Therapy, CAT, providing, Mindfulness and therapeutic group work.
6. To participate in research and audit in the clinical field
7. To encourage and develop user and carer involvement
8. To support the Directorate with the investigation process and learning lessons from serious incidents and complaints
9. To undertake any other duties which may reasonably be required by the Ward Manager.
10. To take a lead on clinical matters and policy development relating to nursing practice.
