Temporary Assistant Gardener – Manual Labour

Job Ref: Wakefield 0008 E35E / 1

Pay Rate: £12.18 per hour PAYE

Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours

Role Length: This opening assignment is for 1-2 months

City: Castleford, West Yorkshire

To undertake a range of horticultural and gardening duties in a flexible manner, providing a citizen focused service which delivers safer and stronger communities by improving environmental quality and increasing the sense of community pride in neighbourhoods.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure that the Grounds Maintenance Services are provided to the highest quality/ standard with due recognition of client and customer requirements, in accordance with the Councils Customer Care and Equal Opportunities Policy.
Work within recognised safe systems and in accordance with all aspects of health and safety legislation at all times.
Undertake training as required to ensure that all aspects of the job are carried out in a safe and professional manner.
Participate in the team working approach of the allocation of duties within the Grounds Maintenance Service.
Meet the public and representatives of other Services as necessary and provide appropriate information on request.
Contribute towards ensuring good employee relations within Environment Services.
Adhere to and apply legislation, Council Standing Orders and procedures as appropriate.
To provide assistance to other teams and areas of work in response to changes in workload and operational requirements.
Undertake other reasonable duties within range of competence, experience and training, as requested, in accordance with the changing needs of the organisation.

Qualifications:

Basic First Aid.
Health & Safety Awareness.
Current clean Driving Licence (category C). The Licence to show no more than 6 penalty points as per current national driving penalties system.



Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Capable of carrying out strenuous tasks in all weathers to a high standard.
Skilled use of appropriate tools and equipment relevant to identified specific tasks.
Ability to communicate at all levels.
Follow written and verbal instructions and keep records.
Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work regulations.
Knowledge and ability to carry out general grounds maintenance and repairs.
At least 1 years experience of horticultural and landscaping works.
