This Jointing Assistant will report to the Jointing Supervisor and will work within UK Power Networks Services based in our Area West Projects, Heathrow Airport office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £35,173 plus van and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose:
A vacancy exists for a Jointers Mate to work with the Project Team in Area West based at Heathrow airport and covering the surrounding areas to deliver new connection work, diversions, fault location and repair and lifecycle asset replacement on the electrical distribution network.
You will undertake and help with CP1 responsibilities, stores management, cable and containment instal and other associated tasks.
Job Nature and Scope:
Area West projects is responsible for all services projects within an approximate 100-mile radius of Heathrow, and all capital project, NAMP and fault repair works on the airport.
Dimensions:
- No direct reports or financial budget.
- Although based at Heathrow and working on Area West Projects, you will develop your skills and authorisations to work on any future projects within the wider UKPN Services business.
- You may be required to participate in a stand-by rota as part of a team to provide emergency response outside of normal working hours.
Principle accountabilities
- Observe all work being carried out on LV and HV apparatus with exposed conductors.
- Ensure safe use of equipment following health and safety procedures and network standards specifically that colleagues on site are also wearing the relevant PPE. (This forms part of the duty of care of all operational staff under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974).
- To deter other third-party contractors and members of the public distracting staff while working on equipment.
- Set equipment up for the Jointer including preparation of work, laying out tools and equipment for a task and stocking the vehicle to allow jobs to be carried out.
- Assist the Jointer whilst works are being carried out following appropriate safety procedures.
- Use appropriate IT equipment such as tough pad - an electronic job issuing system.
- Assist the Jointer with all aspects of maintaining and inspecting the LV and HV network.
- Support the Jointer by using own judgement to undertake risk assessment of a job regarding feasibility, safety, knowledge of tools and equipment and collaborate with the project team.
You will undertake a system emergency storm role where you will work to network standards and safety requirements.
- Complete out of hours safety/emergency response (Standby).
- Provide CP1 cover for 3rd parties entering substations to carry out inspections / minor works
- Assist the team in managing the project stores and ensuring materials are replenished and stored correctly.
Qualifications
The following skills and attributes are important to this role:
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
- Knowledge of electrical distribution an advantage.
- Learn on the job.
- An understanding of the Electricity at Work Act.
- Trained in First Aid.
- Awareness of the policies relating to Health & Safety.
- Full UK driving licence required.
- Promote good team work.
- Achieve full Airside Security Clearance.
- Work and integrate as part of a small team committed to the delivery of high profile projects.
Note: Any necessary training required will be provided to you.
Measures of Success:
- Support and achieve the goal of zero harm to yourself, colleagues and members of the public.
- Understand and implement UK Power Network's policies and procedures.
- Restoration of supply and completion of works promptly following safety requirements.
- Use materials and audit checks tools and materials ordered ensuring that they match the costs of the job.
- Tools and equipment are within test dates and calibrated.
- Jobs are signed off by completion of task instructions and are undertaken safely to quality, cost and time and completed to the correct specification and to guaranteed service standards.
- Feedback from colleagues, customers and other organisations and implementation of work activity demonstrate that policies and procedures are understood undertaken by the post holder.
- Obtain a City & Guilds 2339 (formally 2322) qualification and train to become a craftsperson.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
