Staff Nurse - Paediatrics -Band 5 -Permanent - Various Hours

We are a purpose-built unit that provides both inpatient and day patient care, for children and young people up to 16 years old and support them through transition to adults. We care for a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. Our aim is for you to join us in providing the highest possible standards of holistic family centred care. The unit prides itself on working collaboratively with the MDT.

We have an ambulatory model of care within paediatrics, and we are constantly developing and improving our paediatric services to meet the needs of the area. We have a 24-hour observation and assessment unit, and you will work in both the ward, day surgery and observation and assessment areas

SECTION 1- MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Professional/Clinical
• Provide the delivery of evidence based nursing care by providing expert clinical assessment, care planning, care delivery, care evaluation and clinical advice in accordance withNMC Code of Professional Conduct.
• Ensure all records relating to patient care are accurate, clear, concise, legible and in accordance with theNMC Standards for Records and Record Keeping.
• Actively assess and manage risk within the clinical area.
• Ensure adherence to the Trust Medicines Policy and theNMC Standards for the Administration of Medicines.
• Participate in audits of practice.
• Participate in the teaching and supervision of other members of staff under the direction of the ward manager.
• Support the Clinical Governance systems to delivering high quality of care.
• Assist the ward manager in achieving budget control and order supplies when necessary.

Administrative/Managerial
• Take charge of a shift and ensure organisation and delivery of patient care.
• Adhere to the Bed Management policy and adherence to the Admission and Discharge policies.
• Support the ward manager in effective Resource Management.
• Participate in ensuring the delivery of the Trust targets

Human Resource Management
• Participate in the training and development of student nurses and other staff as appropriate.
• Participate in clinical supervision for junior staff in accordance with Trust policy.
• Assist the ward manager to ensure that there is appropriate allocation of staff duties.
• Ensure communication of information of a complex nature is given sensitivity and confidentiality is maintained

SPECIALITY SPECIFIC
• Working in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct competently undertake expanded roles to enhance the delivery of patient care.
• Proactively safeguard the welfare of children and implement child protection procedures accordingly.
• Actively promote an environment, which is conducive to family centred care.
• Actively participate in paediatric benchmarking and the implementation of Essence of Care standards.
• Act as the child’s advocate at all times

SECTION 2- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Possess expert clinical knowledge appropriate to area of responsibility.
• Frequently manage and participate in distressing situations.
• Use professional judgement and initiative to promote safe practice.
• Demonstrate knowledge of staff and resource management

SECTION 3- EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT
• Participate frequently in tasks requiring physical effort for short periods.
• Deal with bodily fluids on a daily basis.
• Frequently manage and participate in distressing situations.
• Concentrate for long periods and respond to unpredictable patient and staff demands.
• Maintain contemporaneous patient records at all times.
