Development & Regeneration Graduate Apprenticeship (Construction and the Built Environment) - fixed term until 13/08/2028
Waverley Court

Salary: £24,064 - £26,468
Hours: 36 per week

If you like the idea of getting practical paid work experience whilst studying towards a four year honours degree, then we have a great opportunity for you.

Join us working alongside our experienced Development & Regeneration team undertaking work based learning whilst studying for a Graduate Apprenticeship - BSc (Hons) Construction and the Built Environment degree at Heriot-Watt University on a day release basis. You will be expected to achieve success in both aspects of work and study for this apprenticeship.

Our Development & Regeneration team is responsible for the delivery of the Council’s housebuilding programme, including acquisition of sites, designing new homes and communities, procurement of contractors and developers and taking handover of new homes. The team works with a number of Council services including Planning, Transport, Legal, Finance and Building Standards to design and deliver new homes to the highest quality to meet housing need across the city. You will also work with external contractors and consultants.

Working in Edinburgh offers the opportunity to gain a wide range of experience due to the diversity of development sites, to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and to be part of a committed team. You will be joining us at a time when supporting the construction industry, the wider economy and providing much needed affordable housing is vital to the city.

If this sounds like a career opportunity for you, we need to know that you have the ability and drive to complete the degree, have familiarity with ICT and the interpersonal skills to work with a team and help manage projects. If you are a school leaver, you will be educated to higher level – ideally SQA Highers at ABBB or equivalent, please see the further information provided from Heriot Watt University. If you are applying with work experience you will ideally have standard grade level qualifications with significant relevant work experience. However, all applicants will be assessed individually and we will work with Heriot-Watt University to assess the entry criteria based on your individual circumstances.

Further details of the course can be found here:

https://www.hw.ac.uk/uk/business/graduate-apprenticeships.htm

You will need to be able to start the course mid-September 2024.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
